It's been 6 years guys. A lot has changed in the world since then. What hasn't changed is how much of an impact that attack made on our daily lives. Any thoughts about life since the twin-tower bombings, or any remembrances for loved ones / family that may have been killed in any of the attacks that day?
I didn't know anyone directly that was killed, but my best friend Kim's family came from NY, her dad was a fire and police chief, and their family knew many people that were killed in the twin towers, both as businesspeople and as firefighters bravely jumping in to save people.
God bless their families and friends who are still coping with that disaster and with the loss of their brave loved ones.

Funny, I noticed the date about 5 min ago. I knew no-one involved, thankfully.

I worked for NWA, and started september 11th 2002, actually, and had to fly. It was kind of weird being in the air that day. Not long after that, someone gave me their business card when they checked in that listed their office on it as being on the 102nd floor of tower 1. I still have it, but thats about the only personal experience I have.

We should mourn for the loss of freedom along with the loss of life.

I'm not trying to start a bullshit debate. The loss of life was tragic, no doubt. But the truth of the matter is that I can't buy more than 9 grams of Sudafed per month without incurring federal charges.
I feel so safe, so free.

then you should thank your neighbors making meth in the basement..that has nothing to do with this, does it?

because nothing says a safe, free utopian society like unlimited sudafed?
seriously, you're losing it. your freedom and lifestyle is not affected by limits on stuffy nose pills. (which affected my freedom so much that i didnt know it existed)
EDIT: 9 grams of pseudophedrine is 297 tablets of pseudafed. Please tell me why its your constitutional right to buy 300 pseudofed tablets per month.
and its a misdemeanor possesion offense btw. How ironic to use (or believe) the same scare tactics that you accuse the Patriot Act of.
Just knowing us at MM, I know this thread could get argumentative pretty quickly, but the reason I ask for thoughts on life now vs. life then is to help us remember how much we used to take for granted... and how many details of our lives have changed.
I'm ok with some shitfest, but please don't lose sight of what today is about. We can all be 10,000 quite bitter beings every other day in every other thread, but let's try to be as positive as possible for this one please =)

Rex this discussion isn't about the Patriot act. Its about the day people died. So can it.
My cousin's husband office was one of the ones directly hit in the pentagon. He however, was down the hall in the admirals office watching the NY stuff unfold. It literally saved he and his officemates lives that day. It was intense not knowning what happened to him until hours later. I can't imagine how it would have felt to spend days not knowing.

It is sad. I am sad. It was a terrible, tragic, unjust loss of life.
Nobody's saying it's not. Least of all me.
But standing around nodding solemnly is not the way I will remember the lost.

Here is a little story few people know outside of my parents and the young lady i was dating at the time.
I was talking home from my 7am Master thesis class. I walked past a dry erase board in the dorm and saw "A PLANE HIT THE WTC." I broke out in a run down the hall to my room... popped the TVs on, fired up my computer and my roommates computer...
i watched in horror. glued to the TVs and searching for a web site that was streaming the FDNY/NYPD radio traffic.... there are such sites. I wasnt going to class the rest of the day, no matter what. my good friends father worked at the pentagon and he and i were trying to contact him and talk over the computer to make sure his father was safe and sound.
My girlfriend (from NYC) came running in the room and we used every phone we could find to try to reach her parents. She finally did get a hold of them... her mother had to walk from down town to floral park (bronx ny).... there were no trains, traffic was backed the hell up... everyone was on foot.
The next day i got a phone call. One i'll probably never forget. My roommate Keith... from the year before... had passed away during the 9-11 attacks. Keith was an EMT for FDNY. According to his mother, his truck was the second called to the building, and the first to arrive. He died in the first building that fell; i'm sure in a stair well trying to get someone out of the building.
I remember when he used to call. his parents gave him so much shit for racking up tons of bills to go to JMU for a degree... only to come home and fight fires. His parents now run a foundation in his name to send fire fighters to college.
Keith you are gone but not forgotten buddy!

i still remember the day as it were yesterday
i feel incredibly sorry for anyone affected by the tragedy, but it really brought americans together in a sense of nationalism i've never seen before. Along with the mass paranoia and additional security i still think that the outcome was positive. And if any one has traveled outside of the US you'll know just how safe you feel in our borders or on US soil compared to other countries.
my mom actually told me about how she was stuck on washington blvd, just west of the pentagon crash site and felt a huge boom only to find a ball of fire in her rear-view mirrors. I was very relieved to find that she was alright, but her description of the explosion was pretty detailed.

bump? :dunno:
My brother kicked off the morning with some links to Larry Silverstein "admitting" :?: to demolishing building 7:

also entertaining:

But I hadn't seen this NIST report, it's at least the most complete explanation I've seen:

Truthers are as bad as birthers. I recently had a long conversation with an individual that I generally consider to be intelligent, rational, and not the least bit crazy after he made me watch "Zeitgeist". It practically made me go crosseyed with the gross stupidity of every "truther" argument. None of them hold up to serious big-picture scrutiny, but people cling to them like a talisman. Even presumably rational intelligent people. And also Charlie Sheen: http://www.prisonplanet.com/twenty-minutes-with-the-president.html (Although honestly, I'm hoping that his "truther" stance is really just a long, elaborate, and not all that funny practical joke)

yeah my brother made me watch it too, I guess I found it a little more interesting than you did, but it was pretty slow....
Anyway, I'm glad people still question the events and explanation of 9/11. It's always good to ask questions and I admit there are some odd things that I'm not sure about myself, especially when it comes to the pentagon and building 7. And I still don't think our government did a very convincing job at explaining things. So the "truthers" make me think and god bless 'em, but yeah, I haven't found any real damning evidence myself to buy into a conspiracy.

I'm glad people question things too.
On the other hand, it does get kind of annoying that everyone thinks everything is a conspiracy, when a lot of times there is a logical explanation for it all.
