This car deserves its own thread: Aston Martin DBS FINALLY!
#1
Quote:The car everyone has been waiting for since seeing Casino Royale is finally here. Aston Martin has taken the wraps off the stunning DBS coupe, revealing a car that exudes performance and power yet still has the same proportions that made the DB9 one of the most beautiful cars in the world. The DBS will be officially unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours dÔÇÖElegance this week and will go on sale in Q1 2008.

Under the hood youÔÇÖll find the same venerable 6.0L V12 engine found in the DB9 but with a number of modifications. These include a ÔÇÿby-passÔÇÖ engine air intake port that opens above 5500rpm to allow more air into the engine, and re-profiled air inlet ports that further improve airflow into the combustion chamber. Mated to the engine is a six-speed manual gearbox ÔÇô no ÔÇ£softcoreÔÇØ auto for the DBS, thank you. The result is a power output of 380kW (510hp) and peak torque of 420 lb.ft (570Nm). In addition, Aston MartinÔÇÖs extensive use of carbon fibre has reduced the weight of the DBS to 1695kg, around 65kg less than the equivalent manual DB9.

How does it perform? Glad you asked. The DBS will hit 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds and keep pulling all the way to a 191mph (302km/h) top speed, making it a true supercar.

Everyone knows that power without control is nothing, which is why Aston Martin has pulled all the stops to make the DBS excel around the track. ItÔÇÖs the first Aston to be fitted with carbon ceramic brakes, greatly reducing stopping distances and providing excellent resistance to fade. Also new is an Adaptive Damping System with five different settings to adjust the carÔÇÖs ride and handling characteristics. Providing contact with the road are 295 size 20ÔÇØ Pirelli tyres in the rear.

instant classic. there isn't a single thing that isn't hot as hell about that car.

and a proper sports car (maybe not for your typical aston) too! lower weight, fast as crap, a real gearbox and carbon brakes. it's perfect.

I used to see a DB9 every morning on my way to work and it is such a beautiful car, definitely up there with the best designed of the 21st century yet, if not of all time. I can only imagine what one of these must look like in person. Also of note is the interior, how AM's have that massive sloping dash reminiscent of a minivan or something, and yet it looks so good. Pure sex on wheels...

I love how the leather stitching extends up into the dash. It just makes the interior look so high quality and hand made. I'm a sucker for bling, and I bet they'll have the option to do it, but I'd love to see a really dark natural wood grain where all that black plastic (or painted carbon?) insert is in the center console. That would be a damn fine luxury supercar.

Very handsome and sexy but kind of disappointing numbers-wise. If I were rich 3700 lbs and 500 horsepower would not get me out of my bed, much less to drive down to the dealership and sign a 6 figure check (or drop a briefcase full of Benjamins off).

I suppose if I needed a pimp GT though there's not a lot I could put ahead of this. I definitely like this car more than the 599 or Murcielago or other big GT's of that ilk.

If you're buying this car chances are you own a whole bunch more and you're not getting out of bed to get it. You instead send your "agent" down to the dealership to pick it up for you.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

I definitely wouldn't be sending Bond to go pick this one up for me if I were insanely rich. $265k? Makes those overpriced Ferraris seem like a bargain.

Some real world pics of the DBS. I don't know how I feel about the black color... I don't think it does justice to the lines of the car. I also don't know if I'd ever drive a car like that in the rain unless I had no choice:

by the way, there's a $40,000 1997 Aston Martin DB7 volante for sale just out of Baltimore. Check out automart.com. Be advised - it's automatic, and not tiptronic.
