Quantum Rally Sport Shines at Rally West Virginia
The 2007 rally season looks perfect so far if youÔÇÖre Josh and Jeremy Wimpey of Quantum Rally Sport (
http://quantumrallysport.googlepages.com ). They did it again at Rally West Virginia (
http://www.rallywv.com ) by finishing an amazing 4th overall and 1st in class on each of the two days of competition. This comes on the heels of last weekÔÇÖs USRC mid-season review showing their wide lead in the championship after winning three events in a row and that ÔÇ£the Wimpey brothers put in some amazing performances mixing it freely with more powerful and faster AWD opposition.ÔÇØ
Tricky stages, brutal heat, car damage, and dust claimed at least 10 teams along the often steep and treacherous mountain roads surrounding Rally West Virginia in Elkins. Quantum Rally Sport was nearly a victim of the scenery on stage 2 (of 13) when they slid broadside into a bank at the top of 3rd gear, bending the rear suspension and making the car difficult to drive. At the first 25-minute service break, the team was assisted by the expert mechanics of Delta-V Motorsports, whose efforts to straighten the beam allowed the car to finish the dayÔÇÖs stages without losing huge amounts of time to the competition. Overnight, the crew was able to further improve the rear suspension for SaturdayÔÇÖs stages, thanks to tools borrowed from the team of Maunz and Sackett, but was unable to totally eliminate the crab-walking tendencies that come with a bent rear end.
On the exciting Day Two of racing, the 2wd let it all hang out in pursuit of $8,000 up for grabs with the 2wd MaxAttack!Ôäó (
http://www.max-attack.com ) competition. With the top three 2wd teams shuffling fast stage times, each driver knew that a single mistake could cost them a finishing position. While other 2wd teams battled bent suspension parts and power problems, Quantum Rally Sport was forced to limp through stage 4 with a left front flat tire. The Wimpeys finished the weekend just behind Sarasin in his supercharged Ford Focus.
ÔÇ£It was really awesome to battle with MaxAttacker Kyle Sarasin,ÔÇØ driver Josh Wimpey said. ÔÇ£We both had some ups and downs this weekend. He is a talented driver and we had a lot of fun out there.ÔÇØ
Quantum Rally Sport is looking forward to the rest of the Eastern States Rally Championship (ESRC) and the United States Rally Championship (USRC), both of which they are currently leading. The next MaxAttack!Ôäó event is LSPR in Houghton, Michigan (
