Tesla Roadster... electric goodness!!

Saw a clip on this on that show "Futurecars" and if I ever make it big, this is definitely something I'd like to pick up! 100% electric powered, 0-60mph in around 4 seconds, 130mph top speed, 100% torque from 1rpm-13,500rpms!!! You can get a fully loaded one for about $102,000. The biggest downside I can see would be servicing it, you'd have to head up to their NYC location probably to get it fixed. The engine only weighs 70 lbs though, you could pull it and toss it in your pickup.

Takes about 3.5 hours max to fully charge and has a range of about 250 miles, which is solid for an electric car. If you're running low on a charge, you can get the travel charge kit for like $350 bucks and plug it in at a gas station while the bald guy in the Porsche next to you shells out $50 bucks to fill up  You're just going to have to wait a little longer before you can drive off

And I think it looks damn sexy too!

The "motor" lol goes in reverse when in reverse gear. That makes me smile. Its like driving a drill. A fast drill....but the principle makes me smile.

Yah ha ha... I like how simple the engine is. There are hardly any moving parts or supporting parts that require maintainence.

That's my dream car of the moment! I have a background of it's frame/body as my desktop at work :-)

Very cool car, if it could just be for sale at a lower cost it would sell like nothing else. And I know its based on the Elise chassis, but I got it: Acura NSX front and Ascari KZ1 rear with a hint of Ferrari F50 in the middle!

Imagine driving a car like that on track. It'd be hilarious because it'd be so quiet.

This video has some extremely gay music, but it gives you the best exterior sound clip of the car that I could find:

I would love to have one of these, seems like the perfect car for my situation. I wonder what they could do to lower the cost. I mean if they dumped the carbon fiber body and some of the other lightweight stuff I'm sure they could lower the price significantly. and really even if they halved the performance it would still be a fun car.

Regarding cost, I read somewhere that they knew this was going to be a high cost machine and they they did a lot of their R&D on this project. Their goal is to produce another model in the $30k range that's more family oriented and not as high performance.

0-60 time tells us the thing has torque right? How will it respond to the weight of something like a minivan or a truck being strapped to it? Also, I imagine driving it is not all that exciting. It has 175s on the front and the same size tires as the Sebring on the back. Its basically an automatic as well. Also, once we do all the crazy american crash test stuff the darn thing is going to be quite a bit heavier...didn't I read it is already at 2500lbs?

Hell if they pulled the power down to even 0-60 of 5.5, replaced the carbon fiber with aluminum, went with cloth seats, and somehow got it down to 30,000, that would likely pull me in to buy one.

900LB battery, could maybe be lightened somehow?

It's 2500lbs with all of the safety stuff included, it's made in California =P

I think that thing would be incredibly fun to drive! Super lightweight custom made wheels, sticky tires... it even has a standard tire pressure monitoring system.

Look at the torque curve:

I'm dying to drive one of those, it would be a totally different experience!

Battery technology is constantly evolving. I wouldn't be surprised if you start to see those battery weights getting lower and lower and the acceleration gradually getting even better =)
