What are people doing this summer?
#1
Just wanted to make a thread where people can tell us their summer plans!

I'll start:

I'm interning at AOL this summer doing mail server administration but primarily helping run ftp.newaol.com. If you DL a new version of mozilla, winamp, aim, or aol... i'm helping that server now Smile ... I already redid the trim on the side of my car. I'm planning to port the wastegate (we'll see...) no other major plans carwise. I'm going on a trip to an undisclosed location w/ the gf in early july and I might be going home home to the war zone in late july to visit the fam.

Umm I'm working at AOL as a QA Software Engineer. I create test plans, install new builds of internal products, and then test them. If you download an AOL product I have nothing to do with it, but I may have worked on a system that somebody that did create it uses daily. Woot nukkah! I just put a deposit on a rollbar in NY, just need to find a weekend and plan some festivities (taking jessica). I'm slowly piecing together my integra brake/suspension swap and I will begin the M3 search this week.

edit: Just ordered ITR LCAs to go with my ITR sway bars which will go on with the integra brakes and the tein re coilovers (when i get them). all that remains are miscellaneous brake parts, and the coilovers. weeee

seasons mean nothing to me anymore...

for me, its just work work work. i get my raise in july/august, and i've got some debt to take care of (damn student loans, credit cards, and car payments...)

as far as the kaa goes, well, hopefully i'll get my valve tick issues worked out, and possibly get around to buying a set of konis so i have a place to put those ground control sleeves i've got sitting in a box for the last 6 months. i originally planned on hitting the track and really working on my driving this summer, but since all those summit shenandoah events were cancelled, it f'ed all my plans. we'll see though...

I've been down in Greenville, SC since May 10 doing an internship for Cryovac, which is a company that creates the bagging and wrapping material for meat produce and creates the labels for that produce. I work in the graphics department and basically help design labels for stuff like Boar's Head, Perdue, Zeigler, Kunzler, etc meat companies. It's a big operation, the plant alone covers 40 ACRES under roof! i'm be living down here til mid july, then its back to Roanoke, where i'll probably work a landscaping job with my old boss i worked with for the past 2 years.

The accord hasn't seen much in the way of mods, i mostly drive it the 15 minutes to and from work everyday, and take it on the backroads around greenville for some fun after work when i'm feeling frisky. i've really come to love the TL type S rear sway bar with the michelins, it's really an entertaining, albeit s_l_o_w car to drive. i will be buying a pair of front brake pads soon since i'm fading and warping my brakes on a disgustingly regular basis in this summer heat. I'll probably start a thread soon to get some recommendations from you cats. most likely i'll spring for Carbotech Bobcats or Axxis Ultimates, but we'll see.

No need to start a thread, you know your 2 options. Ultimates are half the price, but they dust a lot more. Smile

I'm currently working 2 jobs. I'm working in the office at Kroger most of the time and a few nights a week I wash dishes at the restaurant my brother cooks at. Their dishwasher quit and they need the help.

As for the car, I gained 100hp by cleaning my air filter. Smile. It's still running good. I haven't really done anything to it. If I keep it, I'll be getting an SS hood and intake in the next few days. I'm going to look at two black miata's with hardtops this week sometime. Just to see how much the guy wants for them.

I am working for the Department of the Army Human Resources Command, doing office type work. It is very enjoyable and I like going to work. The government does a great job of having an ethnically diverse workforce which allows to learn about different people. I work 8-4:30, 40 hours a week. As for my Buick I am going to keep it as long as I can. In the meantime I have been looking for a starter bike with 500cc. I have all the gear I need, and all I need is a bike.

I've got one more week of May session class. Then I'll be going back to Richmond for my bro's high school graduation and family get-together. The rest of the summer is up in the air- I have 2 possible "jobs" in the recreation field (VA beach convention center or starting a children's camp at Bryce resort from the ground up). The problem with these is that they are not paid positions. The bryce resort position would lead to a full time salary position as the manager of the camp when I graduate next May. I have to find a job in my major for 350 practicum hours, and I don't think I can afford not to be paid.

On a side note, I just got back from Hatteras, and let me tell you that place is amazing. I went with my May session class for a camping trip at Frisco beach- camping right near the dunes and enjoying the beach and seafood all weekend. It rained a bit but it was still awesome- a 2nd trip is in order!

Car and track plans are pending on the job I find. Thats what I'm focusing on now...

Bahaha @ Gail and Larry. One of the best weekends I ever had in college.

In Phoenix right now. Not even halfway through our roadtrip and we've already clocked in 2,900+ miles. Visiting the grand canyon tomorrow so my friends can see it, I've already been up there a few times. On to LA Tues where we will turn around and head back. It's over a 100 in the shade right now, hope everyone else is staying this warm.

When I get back I plan on kicking it around...doing something serious for the car. Either suspension/tires/bushings/rims or maybe a even larger turbo + FMIC. Still not sure.
Going to be back in the hburg come august to move into the house. Going to find a job there hopefully some kind of bitch work at a dealership.

Enjoy your summer,

and i'm in for the late-ness

As of right now I have one more week of May Session with english lit. This class sucks, i hate literature soo much. As soon as this class is finished I'm going to the Blink-182/No Doubt Concert on the 11th of June Big Grin . Following that Friday I'm starting up back at work at the Dept of State in DC on the 14. I'll be working there till fall semester starts back up again. I might be working at RGIS also working as an inventory worker, working some week nights and weekends. I'm reconsidering this job due to the lack time, but i can't think of anything else i'll be doing. I have to start up my ISAT senior project soon. I'll be working with ComSonics and their manufacturing branch in Weyers Cave. Hopefully that project and get a jump start this summer so i don't have to work so hard over the fall semester and spring semester of next year.

As for the car i do not have any major plans for it. Ideas of recaro seats were up in the air, but faded quickly, although still considering (d'oh for indecisiveness and temptation). I'm looking to auto-x it a good amount over the summer if/when i get some free time to do so. Right now i simply want the car to keep running well and i've kind of stopped modding it. I figure it's not really worth it. I need reliability and money over anything else with the car.

Originally i was planning on driving across the country with my other friend Jason, and that's still a possiblity, but here are the pros/cons:

pro's:
I turn 21 on August 11, i was planning on spending my birthday and a few extra days in Vegas. Followed by the bar/rave seen in LA escorted by my cousin that lives in Pasadena.
Doing what i've been wanting to do for a while.
Taking yet more mileage to my odo.

con's:
losing about $1200 of not working for 3 weeks.
dissing my coworkers and only working for 6 weeks instead of 9, i like them, i don't want them to feel like i'm using them.
gas prices are supposed to peak in August and i have to use atleast 91 octane.
Would've gone to a Kenny Chesney concert with my friends at Nissan on the 13th.
Being away from most of my friends on my 21st.

what do you guys think?
