26k with a week left, that is just nuts. I wonder how much he actually intended to get from this. It would be nuts if he had expected to get a few grand and is walking away with a year's salary :-).

No kidding, for under a hundred bucks you could pick up an NES and pretty much every game you would ever want to play (maybe a little more than $100). I don't know if $26k is worth the "convenience" factor of having them all in front of you right away.

I sincerely hope he's buying it as an investment hoping to make more on it in a few years. If they're buying to play, I don't they there would be such an emphasis on them being mint.

Sure, 26k could be a year's salary; my gross for last year was <25k. However, my statement was made more on the assumption that the price will go a bit higher.

some of those games are extremely rare and go for hundreds if not thousands by themselves.

Uh yeah whoever is spending that much money on fucking Nintendo games is a retard. You could download every single one of those for free if you spent enough time on it. Many of those games are rare, but many of them are also shitty.

I THINK we can safely assume the value is no longer directly associated with the 0's and 1's that are on the cartridges.

You can compare Nintendo games from the '80/90s that are not all that special (you could piece that whole kit together for probably 1/10th or less of that price) to diamonds that are millions of years old or to the rookie card of one of America's sports icons?

I understand collector fads, but I also understand when people are spending too much money for something that is not going to appreciate much if at all. You'd probably have to sit on that Nintendo kit for a billion years before you could see any return on it, purely from a collector standpoint.
