It doesn't take long for word to get around huh? I've had a lot of people asking about a "rumor" and so I guess I'd better just fess up. I got a new toy...

2004 Honda CBR600 F4i, Black and Yellow. Drove it off the showroom floor a couple of weekends ago. I don't know, I just had this urge, and one test ride later it was over. Other contenders were the R6 and the GXR600. Once you sit on the F4i though, the comfort blows the other two away. I'm close to 600 miles on it now, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. This thing redefines what I used to consider "performance." 0-60 in the low 3 seconds (ask Sean), 0-100 faster then you can imagine. Balance, brakes, handling, looks, it's great, I am so in love and absolutely addicted beyond rehabilitation. I'm happy to give people rides, but sorry, you can't drive it.

Here 'tis:

That's not an MM sticker, but that's a good idea! If MM will donate a yellow sticker, I'll sport it!

You can get a kart...
1. Cheaper
2. Nearly as fast
3. Won't be tempted to dumb stuff on the street (well... maybe)
4. Won't get run over by cars since you won't drive it on street
5. 4 wheels
6. You can race it for cheap
7. Skills learned while racing for cheap can be applied to larger vehicles

Who's to say I can't do both? Or that I haven't been plotting for years?

Thanks Dad. I'm sure a kart is a ton of fun, but since you seem to be focusing on practicality issues, what about the fact that you can't even drive a kart on the street? And you don't think that you pick up racing skills/lines on a bike? Ok...

Yes, it is safe to assume I am a very practical person. I like practical/efficient things, it's just the way I am.

I honestly wouldn't want to drive a bike on the street, simply too dangerous especially with the idiots with one hand on their H2 and the other on their cell phone nowadays. Give me something that encases me or give me death.

And no, you cannot pick up car control skills on a motorcycle. If you know of a way then by all means do share!

Is that why Valentino Rossi can pull competitive times in an F1 car too? If you're fast you're fast. Obviously not all of the skills translate but ultimately you're still managing traction on the friction circle, still managing weight transfer, still trying to make smooth steering/braking/throttle inputs, trail braking, etc. A kart is gonna be a quicker way to learn 4 wheeled vehicles but bike time is not summarily worthless.
