Decade-Long Project Will Add Towers With Offices, Apartments
Fairfax County's evolution into a more urban suburb advanced last night as the Board of Supervisors approved plans to overhaul Tysons Corner Center by surrounding the mall with a ring of eight towers containing offices, more than 1,000 apartments and at least one hotel.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
That wont really create traffic problems, IMO. There's always construction and new buildings going up in that area.
I am a lot more worried about the proposed Metro line out to Dulles Airport.... they're planning on running right down the middle of Rotue 7. Good luck with that!

Creating an additional 1000 apartments won't add traffic? Pass me some of that crack y0!

It might add traffic but the net effect is you wont notice anything different. There are already 10,000 (I pulled the number directly out of my arse) apartments/offices/condos stacked up next to both malls - adding more is a drop in the bucket. There has always been new construction of apartments and office buildings in that area. This isnt anything new.
My best guess is they're going to use the huge open area between 123 and Tysons 2.

You haven't seen critical mass yet, you can still cram more traffic in there and notice it.
Article said they were going to tear down some of the existing stores.

7 is gonna be awful when construction starts on the metro. it's heinous already and i don't see how they can construct a metro without affecting what exists today.

I bet real estate prices hit a new high when those things go up.

lol im glad my mom got her house when she did (before the big boom) we are across the street on gallows with a 2-car garage. It was already at 750k for a townhouse, (its just me and my mom and my sister, my sister for only a few years) so there was no need for a large house. Thank god, prices on real estate tax are going to be astronomical.
PS- When you live there, you learn to deal with it. The only people I haer bitch about it are the people that DONT live there, all my friends and me included who live literally across the street and sorrounding area dont bitch.

+1, damn everyone here at work deals with govt shit in DC and everyone says "i wouldnt wanna live there!" but you deal with it when you grow up there. silver lining is that traffic isnt bad everywhere else when you are used to DC traffic

Its going to be a long time before I buy a house around here. The bottom is going to have to drop out of the market something awful if its going to be soon. As long as rent is still fairly reasonable there's no reason for me to piss away $$ on buying a house.

People learn to live with AIDS too but that doesn't mean it's a good thing or welcomed.
Yeah, I compared traffic in Tysons to AIDS.

+1
I could sit in traffic through tysons for 35 minutes, or I could take twisty backroads for the same amount of time. The only palce that traffic is unavoidable is if you need to get to Chantilly, Centreville, Manassas, or Maryland.

There's definitely a joke in there somewhere but I've used up my asshole allowance for today.
You bitch all the time about traffic in Nova, why is it all of a sudden a non-issue?

Says the guy who is convinced there's no way I can make it downtown in 45 minutes after work. I agree that you can avoid traffic in most cases. I was just making a joke about Tysons being particularly bad in this area.

$2350 (rent at the new place)
$600000 (what the place next door was selling for)
5% (thats a stretch)
30 yr
6%
10 yrs
1%

It gives the slight edge to buying, but if you were in that scenario and wanted/had to move inside of 5 years without a significant equity gain (i.e. the housing bubble) then you've got the potential to get hosed and lose a lot of money.

Ok, you got me there. But its only when I plan poorly and leave the house after 8:30, or leave work in the middle of rush hour. Most of my commute is out lawyers rd.
