Gettin rotors but want some input

Hey guys, I know this would probably best fit into the technical discussion forum, but its not really a problem, just want some opinions!!!

I'm in need of front rotor replacements and I'm looking around for performance front rotors for the '03 Stratus... does the slotted or drilled rotors really make a difference? AND do any of you have recommended brands to go with. I know, brakes are boring but it'd be tight to get some input from you professionals Smile

Just use regular, cheap advance auto/autozone rotors - the drilled/slotted is just bling. Good pads and fluid make a bigger difference.

I would say the same, BUT if you are looking for bling, get Brembos, definitely not any cheap knockoffs.

Well, the cheap ones look the same, perform the same and last as long...

cheaper for the win, aftermarket slotted or drilled rotors will tend to crack, cost you more, and will eat your pads. I'm not even sure if they will help the car stop better anyway, but this is going off of a lot of reviews from articles that i've read and people posting online.

Not really, the cheap ones crack within 5 seconds, ive had friends run them. Then ive had maybe 10-20 of my friends with the drilled brembos and have not broken.


Also youll notice the thickness difference between the advanced auto rotors and the brembo rotors.

drilled and slotted dont do almost anything, for the surface area they lose against the pad on a street car is more detrimental than the heat they will "escape"

Brembos are good. I personally run Powerslot slotted rotors on my STi and they work fantastic. Those combined with Hawk HPS pads and stainless lines makes for some good braking power that's actually saved me in a couple instances from the terrible drivers you encounter up in northern VA.

Woulda been a normal stop if you had some really good pads on there ;-). Just playing, I drive around with street/track pads everywhere, which is definitely overkill considering I drive like a pansy on the street and virtually never get into any form of panic stop any more.

Yea some kid coming out of a high school almost ran me off the road the other night when I was coming home from a suby meet. If it weren't for those brakes my entire front end would be fucked.

i wonder who would be at fault in a situation like that. Good brakes = don't have to find out, as you discovered. I don't think I've owned & regularly driven a car that didn't get some form of brake upgrade :-).

I used $13 autozone rotors on the racecar... with tiny 10" rotors, and never had one crack, in 2 years.

On the ITR, they would crack all the time. But it didnt matter what I used. Autozone, napa, expensive napa, brembo - they all cracked at the same point. If your friends are cracking rotors, it isnt a rotor problem.

If you do what they do to rotors on the track and the cheap ones are still the one 99% of the racers use... then those rotors are the ones that work the best for the buck.

got 10in powerstop drilled rotors on the van. They work fine. Had them on a Lebaron vert before and they were a big improvement over old and wore out. All this mated with premium wearever silver brake SHOES on the rear. It makes for a powerful high-performance brake system...if I had it all to do over again, $10/side autozone FTW.

i've used so many cheapy autozone/advance/whatever rotors with no problems. the only times i've had problems with rotors is when i've been in a bind and had to buy the expensive brembos or powerslots because thats all they have. i've definitely scored those rotors, or seen uneven wear but the cheap ones i always get work great

My WRX was tough on brakes on track, so I bought some $200 DBA slotted racing rotors that were supposed to be superior metal quality, high temp, etc. and this is what happened after just 3 days on track

by comparison,
Cheap rotors usually lasted 8 days on track before developing deep hairlines. (but never had an all out crack failure)
