I have been looking for an old bike to restore/work in for a little while now, and I had found this guy on ebay. It was in chapel hill NC, very close to where I was supposed to pick up the F4i, so I got his phone number and made an offer to get 'em both in one weekend Its in suprisingly good shape, and doesnt need a whole lot to get on the road. It also has Koni shocks in the rear
What is a CB400F? Well, its an air cooled, 408cc 4-cylinder. Pretty good article on them here:

This thing is definately old school, but its really nice in its simplicity. I am enjoying working on it, as its nothing like the RC's complexity and hassle. The gas tank doesnt have any bolts holding it on, just rubber hangers. The carbs come off in about 2 minutes, and are apart in another 10-15 minutes.
Progress so far has been to put a battery in it (I had a spare), rebuild the front brake, and go through the carbs. The carbs were a little gummed up but nothing too bad. The bike came with a new carb gasket/o-ring set and I ordered a full rebuild kit as well, individual air filters and some larger main jets. After putting the carbs back together, the float valves are still leaking, so the carbs are back apart and I am just waiting on the rebuild kit. After that I should have it on the road!

Very very cool RJ, those classic bikes have grown on me a lot lately. I'll certainly be keeping up with this thread!
There wouldnt be much profit to made really, and not why I bought the bike - I'm going to keep it. If the time comes to sell it at some point I might give it to my dad - he had one just like it.

Fuck fuck fuck motherfucking fuck shit fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am really pissed off!!!
Ok, I get home and I have presents. The carb rebuild kits and the assortment of main jets. Hooray! I get started assembling... top ends of the carbs go together nice and easy. Bottom ends of the carbs go together nice and easy. Everything fits. I'm in the zone. Rawr! Almost there. Then... 2nd to last pilot jet, coincidentally the 2nd to last part I am going to put in the carbs before the floats go on and I am ready to terrorize Dunn Loring woods with 408cc of raging fury... it snaps off. In the carb body. Right at the threads, so the threads are stuck in there. No big deal, right? Drill it out, extract whats left in there, and blow out the bodies with compressed air... er, where the fuck is my air compressor? I dunno. Then the drill bit breaks off. Super fucked. Carb body is trashed.
At least, I have a spare set of carbs. I'll just use all the new parts, tear the other set down to the bodies, get some carb cleaner tomorrow, soak them and build those instead. This time using the stock jets. I take the float bowls off and I'm greeted with... this.
And the float pins are stuck. Hopefully they'll loosen up after soaking.
Fuckity fuck fuk. I hate cheap ass chinese parts. OEM Honda FTMFW.

Damn RJ that sucks!
Those other carbs must have sat in the ocean for a few years. Can't save the other one huh? (The one that you drilled).
