The only thing that stops a bad guy with a van is a good guy with a van
haha wow... I would love to see the look on their faces
some guy at a Wendy's drive through near my house tried to hijack a little old lady in a porsche about 10 years ago with the same outcome - stupid theives
Man, thats hilarious. It'd be even better if someone tried to steal a car with a manual transmission without syncronizers

And to tell you the truth, so is that VW/Audi DSG. I was wondering the other day if I'll ever be "forced" to give up good 'ol manual transmissions due to wholly superior tech. I'm sure I'll still have something (an E30?) around to teach my kid stick on, but in 15-20 years, will the choices pretty much be CVT and DSG instead of auto and manual?

I just hope we still have something that remotely looks like a combustion engine. I was reading about electric motors and how it can make so much torque that it would only need 2 gears.
Two feet.
I think the question is summed up nicely with this thought: what transmission would you buy in a Ferrari F430? 6-speed manual or automated manual with flippy paddles?

Yeah but technology puts us farther away from manual.
Example: New Evo will no longer have a manual.
So now that mitsubishi is dead, hopefully other's will learn not to do it.

Whichever one had the best resale value so I could go flip it and buy something worth having.
And a house.

New paddle-shift technology is great but it would really decrease the driving experience as we currently know it...

mmm... i've yet to try one of those dohickeys, but i wouldn't go so far as to say they'll decrease driving experience... if they can mimmick everything we do, why not? we can then concentrate on more important things (hitting an apex, controlling the car, etc).

thats what would kill it for me, right there. i want to heel/toe downshift and rev match, and all that good stuff! unless i'm racing competitively, i want to have to constantly excercise my ability, even if it means i screw up shifts.
for me alot of the enjoyment comes from doing something so complex, its really satisfying for me.
i bet that in 10 years there will only be a select few hardcore cars that even offer true manuals anymore.
