Hey, I could use some help attempting to clean my paint after somebody threw pumpkin all over the hood while I was gone at school for the day. Ciro or anybody, if you have any time this week to take a look at it or can tell me what to do help clean the paint... I'd really appreciate it.
I tried tar remover... did nothing, tried clay bar and nothing. Meguiar's Scratch-X got most of the residue off that was left on the car after washing it but marks still remain. None of the paint was removed but it looks like a sort of hazing is left on/in the clearcoat. Any ideas?
BTW... thanks Justin for letting me use the Scratch-X, seemed to help the most. I'll get it back to you ASAP.
Oh yea, and screw lame people that think its cool to F with other people's pride and joy. /rant.
maybe if you looked a little tougher people wouldnt throw shit on your car?

And - this will sound dumb - but you did try to wash it off with soap before you tried that other stuff, right?

The car was thoroughly sprayed and washed to remove all solids from the paint. I didn't even mention that because I figured it was common sense.
Well, I'm no Ciro - but I'd say Clay bar it, but you're probably going to have to do the whole hood, or whatever it is with the stuff on it - wash, then wax.

Oh damn Shea, that sucks man!!! =(
And that's right after we were admiring how clean your car was the other day.
Good luck! BS like that is exactly why I refused to park my old Subie down there after it was keyed.

Well.. after a few hours of work with the scratch-x and some zaino I was able to remove almost all the marks from the hood with exception of some minor haze that I'll try and deal with tomorrow. I tried to put a couple coats of wax/polish over the area to try and protect it for the time being. Tips and tricks to help clean the hood are still more than welcome.
Lee.. I might be leaving it at home soon , did you do anything special while you left it at home just sitting? I've heard that topping off all fluids and an occasional start up / quick drive will allow the car to stay healthy? I don't plan on leaving it alone for more than two weeks at a time being that break is coming up soon and I drive back and forth to work everyday while I'm home. Thanks for any opinions.
damn i'm sorry Shea. i can't recommend anything other than clay barring.
if it makes you feel any better, someone ran over a McDonald's buffalo sauce container in the parking lot and it exploded all over the side of my car. dried up buff sauce is a recipe for great times.

Nah I just left it. It should be fine, as long as you come back to start it ever so often.

i wouldn't leave it at home... it's just money down the drain at that point.

Fixing it when it gets fucked up by jealous haters at school is money down the drain too =P haha
The keying of my old WRX at JMU cost $500 out of pocket and $1700 total to fix.

What a damn shame. Freaking bastards can't leave anything along can they? Did the pumpkin dent the hood when it hit?

No dent luckily. All the paint was intact and was able to be cleaned. My main issue was with the residue where it had been sitting all day, assuming it happened the night before. Hopefully the paint wasn't damaged too much but I believe I got all the harmful aspects removed. Now I'm just trying to figure the best means of cleaning / clearing that surface before re-waxing.
Man shea that sucks...
I have quite a few detailing items down here if you need to borrow anything at all. Ciro and I both have buffers if need be. I would recommend a very light polish to remove the hazing. That will remove a microscopic layer of clear coat (the layer that has hazing). And if that takes care of things then of course follow up with some wax or sealant to protect the finish.
yeah - i didnt realize you had already clay barred it. Buff it - or really, wait until after winter, then buff it

I hate to hear that man. I really hate ignorant pieces of shit that have absolutely no respect for other peoples stuff.

I'd try either a rubbing compound or a light polish.
I seriously wish people would learn how to respect other people's shit. Actually, I just wish stupidity was more painful in general. Rest assured, I believe what goes around comes around. Someday, you'll drive by the person who did it, while they are on the side of the road after their car takes a dump. To look on the bright side, at least it is repairable for minimal cost. No major damage, and nothing some detailing goodies and some elbow grease won't remedy
