My thoughts from first time at Summit Point (spectating)

First, I can't believe it took me this long to get there even just to watch  .

I had a blast, you cannot appreciate what a car can do on the edge until you see/experience it. I was just blown away by how late they would brake, cars that you KNOW can't slow down that quick, do. And the dedicated race cars (single seaters) are just amazing.

With my history in drag racing, I will say that watching turn 1 was equivalent to watching 8 sec cars launch and disappear with the front wheels up. I'm not going to argue about driver skill here, just that seeing the physics at work in such extremes are equally as exciting, for me.

I went right home ordered new belts and Monday set up to have my roll bar modified.

The best part...I had my 3 yr old who has a blue 350Z hot wheels car with orange wheels and a wing. When a blue Miata with orange wheels came out of the woods, he saw it and screamed "Look daddy, my GT race car" (that's what I told him that hot wheels was called). He started jumping up and down yelling "Go, go, go" as he rounded the carousel and sped down the back stretch. He did it every time the car came around.

Well, I have a winter to get my car in shape, the tech inspections are much more stringent than at the 1/4 mile tracks.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...

Jay's not kidding. I worked VIR in Feb, bought the MR2 in May, drove my first event last October. It's worse than crack.

glad to hear you enjoyed your first trip to a track. You should have swung by the MM paddock space and introduced yourself. Although it is a bit more of a hike, you really ought to try to come out, if not participate, in the Feb event and VIR. Truly, a world-class track, and a fantastic place to drive or spectate. It's usually colder than a witch's titty in Feb, but I usually don't care b/c it means the off-season is finally over.
If you don't drive at VIR, make sure you get some rides. There are several of us in MM who would be more than willing to take you out for a ride, I definitely would have this weekend if I'd known you were there.

I was a little gun-shy about driving into the paddock. I did see Evan's #55 Miata parked right near turn 1 but never saw anybody near the car. Is that the normal spot for you guys?

Who on here are instructors? I might like to set something up for VIR if that is possible.

Glad you had fun. I made arrangements for my son's cub scout pack to come out there on Sunday and they had a blast too.
MM'rs usually paddock along the pit wall fence at Summit. I wondered why Evan was paddocked over in the grass but didn't ask him..he was too busy winning the championship Big Grin
At any event , come by registration an see me for info, etc. Always happy to help.

So that was you in the #0 black E30 that directed a lost guy in a white minivan who was afraid to cross the escape road heading to turn 1.

I will look you up at my next visit, thanks.

That was me...and if you remember I said it is unlikely anyone will come down that road and 5 seconds later Jayson pulled in there in his teggy when he popped the motor

LOL I was instructing him when it happened. We pulled in the crossover and the first thing I said was "WTF is with all this traffic going down to turn 1?" Big Grin

Naw, the RHD b00stb33st was my HPDE1 student, and that car was really cool:

The motor-pop was with my second HPDE2 student on Sunday, timing guy Jayson West, in his blue '92ish Integra.
