"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Be forewarned that this is not a Dell-specific problem. The lithium ion battery in question is a Sony battery, and is found in many other laptop brands...

The likelihood of your battery exploding is probably less than getting eaten by a shark however...

I wish my work laptop would explode - it would truly be the only redeeming quality it has. F'n D600s are pieces of poop!

I've had nothing but good experience with my work D600. The max resoultion when undocked is annoying but technically speaking the machine is sound.

all the crap that companies pile on your laptop can turn a laptop into a steaming pile of ass.
I have a brand new IBM T43 loaded with ram but its slower than my 4 year old desktop because of all the security and network crap pre-loaded

i started with a d600... it worked and did its job just fine. i then went to a d610 and was even happier. i then got a d620, which was a steaming pile of shit. i now have a d810, which rocks. the d820 is just as good if not better, but stay away from the d620s for sure.

Certain Dell laptops have an issue where XP forces the HD run in PIO mode for some reason and you have to reload the controller drivers from Intel. This makes them run slow as balls. I personally hate all Dell laptops - give me an IBM.

Confusedhrug: on the Dell hating.

I've had 3 desktops and 1 laptop, my sister and mom have Dell laptops and they've had 2 desktops. Never a problem with any one of them.

yep, i swear by dell too for an average user. can't touch their pricing and support.

i have a feeling it's [dell hate] the same (or close to) as people hating on microsoft. there are always people who hate on the best or the person who figured a market out better than anyone else...

Myself and probly 90% of the people in my building are using the D610s, I havent had any real complaints. It is slower than my personal computer, but that was to be expected. I just hope this one doesn't explode, work without a computer = death

Agreed. I've made "guided" purchases of 8 Dell desktops and laptops for family and they've all been happy.
