WTB: AE86 Corolla

Must be the hatchback rear wheel drive version with 4a-ge engine(or once had a 4a-ge). I could care less about how well it runs but preferably a strong tranny(doesn't have to have an working engine/or any engine for that matter). Gotta have a strong frame and i could really care less about the interior. If any of the stuff i don't care about is fine on the car then that's an added bonus. just let me know if you guys hear of any for sale anywhere (or know someone that could be convinced to let it go) so i can check em out, thanks.

those things are hideous. What could possibly interest you in that car, unless you're thinking about dorifto now? The only redeeming factor of that car is that it's RWD, and that doesn't make up for that much.

Yeah a 240sx or E30 bimmer would be cheaper, faster, and easier to get parts for.....

I saw a stock AE86 sell on ebay for almost $6000 last year. The only thing done to it was Initial D graphics..... sad.

no drifting hahaha, i just want a possible house for the 4age 20v, and a car that i can autoX/track without worrying about cracking a molding, or if i find a smooth running one im gonna daily driver/autoX/track and take the celica off the road while the 20v goes in it, either way the useless engine sitting in my basement is goin into something

shipping an engine & tranny without access to a truck is a bit hard. I was offered a trade for the engine/tranny for a stage 3 turbo kit for the 4a-fe but id need a new engine cause if i added any sort of boost to this one itd die after about 3 spools. Also insurance plays a big role in my car choices, seeing how i dont have a job during school, i need a car thats easy on insurance. . What would you suggest RJ? ITR/GSR/some honda/acura? i think the AE86 being RWD would be loads more fun , oh and if it wasnt obvious im partial to toyotas, if i dont go with the AE86 I'm prolly gonna go for a 1g AWD DSM. I dunno though, im open to suggestions. I was also contemplating getting a 2.2L impreza, as of right now im just saving money. Oh and as ive stated before, the celica isn't getting sold ::clutches keys:: it's my preecccioouuussss

Pallette + Truck Frieght.

What do you want to do?

There's lots of cheap cars that make good cars to start out with autox/open track use in.

RJ stop hating. The RWD corollas are in fact good cars, and the 20v motor is a great motor.

Why are you sold on the hatch? As Im sure you know, those are extremely rare. Only one I have ever seen was in Reston, and it was driven by some hippie and had peace love, etc bumper stickers all over it.
The coupes can be found easier and cheaper, every bit as capable.

20 year old cars do not make good track cars........ no matter what it is.

tsk tsk, contradicting yourself in the same thread! So which is it?

I would much rather have a 80s rwd corolla as a track car than a 80s german pile.

AE86...

Now, I know this isn't really a thread critique of your poor taste in transportation, but really son. The 20V engine IS cool as shit. But if you're worried about engines blowing up, well, the 20V is kind of an old engine.

And if you want cheap, quasi-reliable, fun transportation:
  • 240SX
  • RX-7
  • MkIII Supra
  • 4th Gen 'Lude
  • CRX
  • MkI MR2
  • 1st Gen DSM (ok, so not reliable...at all)
  • Sentra SE-R/NX2000
  • E30 BMW
  • S12 200SX SE (boo-yah!)
  • Z31 300ZX (ditto!)
And the list goes on! Notice the distinct lack of corrolas.

Eh I'd only agree with 240, FC, CRX, SE-R, and E30 as street/track cars. The RWD Corollas probably wouldn't be bad so i'd say go for it unless the price is silly.

I think I saw a rusted AE86 today. The rust was creeping up the undercarriage.

Well, those are my top choices, but I really am going to have to insist on the 200SX SE. That's just an awesome car. And Z31's are cheapcheap, and way fun. I was just pointing out that compared to all of this other stuff (most of which can be had for under 2 grand) the AE86 blows. I mean, royally blows donkey balls. Maybe 5 years ago, back when you could get one for 500 bucks they were OK, but now there's such a huge Initial-Doriiiiiiftoooo-rice-boy-poseur-meeeeetoooo!!!! markup on them that it's completely unreasonable.

If he insists on using the 20V, cram it into a MKI MR2.

why not just hang on to the 20V motor for a few more years. the demand for that thing will just keep goin up, then find someone desperate to put that thing in their 86, and they'd probably shell out big bucks for it

Just to clarify. The S12 200SX SE? The OLD one? Like the last one on this page?

http://www.datsuns.com/200sx/index.htm

I just didn't realize there was a 200SX that was anything worth looking at over in the US. Nothing that an early nineties SE-R couldn't beat up on. Are we talking about something newer? Cause the newer ones kinda suck from what I hear. Again, nothing the old SE-R couldn't beat up on.
