I've been working pretty hard on the XR lately. This winter/spring has seen a pretty dramatic change in the car. I enjoy looking at everyone else's projects so I thought I'd post a few of mine in no particular order. I'm too lazy to resize the pics, so enjoy them in their full res wonder.
First off, I 10 point cage (through the firewall):
Added some seats:
Lexan Windshield:
12.4" Rotors up front:
Removed the sunroof:
Installed a Kill Switch:
Did a bunch of other small projects that complement the above ones, but no specific pictures to share. The car needs a fire supression system and I need a racer suit and we'll be comp legal. Oh yeah, I have to get my comp license but that's going to have to wait until VIR next winter.
It's been a ton of fun to watch the transformation. The only thing I outsourced was the cage for obivious reasons. Built the passanger seat mount this weekend which really put the finishing touches on the big parts of the car. The only other thing I want to add are brake cooling ducts. I have the hardware, just need the time and energy to dive in...
Anyhow, enjoy the pics!

I was terribly impressed with the progress of the XR.
There doesn't seem to be too many places that you haven't
touched up with upgraded parts and the end product is really
mpressive in person. Good job, Pete.
Two feet.
Looking good pete
Let me know when you're doing the brake ducts, I'll come help as I could use some ideas and motivation.

Pete what GTS class will you be in?
Evan Wrote:Pete what GTS class will you be in?
Starting out in GTS2, with the goal of getting me and the car capable of being competitive in GTS 3 one day.

Looks like top GTS2 times are around 1:26. You should be able to do well! Expectations are high when you race with an MM sticker on your car

gts classing is based soley on power to weight ratio. i'm pretty sure they don't have many restrictions. Pete, correct me if i'm wrong.
starting out in GTS2 and going down to GTS3? would you be decreasing power or increasing weight to move down?
With some real tires, 'high boost' and the suspension sorted on that car, turning 1:22-23's should be like touring laps.
If I run any HC races next year at summit with a real engine and diff (assuming the weight doesnt change) then I'm shooting for a high 1:26.

Can't wait to see it on track next month!
Are you running open group?

This thread piqued my interest, so I looked up the rules.
GTS3 is faster than GTS2
classes and p/w ratios
GTSU = 5.99 and lower
GTS5 = 6.0 - 8.49
GTS4 = 8.5 - 10.99
GTS3 = 11.0 - 14.49
GTS2 = 14.50 - 18.49
GTS1 = 18.50 and higher

If I run any HC races next year at summit with a real engine and diff (assuming the weight doesnt change) then I'm shooting for a high 1:26. GTS2 has a P/W ratio maximum of 14.5, so at 2700 lbs w/ driver (thats a guess) he could only run about 180 whp

i thought it was the other way around (like HC) for some reason. i thought it was interesting to have the power-weight ratio being the deciding factor though. Did some research for the dub (project post) coming .
Pete - I can't wait to see this thing on track again!
Hrm, 180whp and 2700 lbs should be good for 26's then

Actually after looking at it I'll be in GTS3 no matter what. I'm guessing my car weighs around 2750-2800, so to be on the upper limit of GTS3 I'll need 250 whp (which is no big deal, just twist the happy knob). I'm currently at 215WHP.
It's not really the HP that scares me, it's the competition. GTS3 is the biggest GTS group and those guys have some seriously trick M3's, 911's, etc. I'm not sure the XR could *ever* be in the realm of those cars in terms of handling.
At any rate, I'll have a good time. If they can out handle me I'll just have to learn to out drive them, right? ;-).

Watkins Glen? I'm in Group 2, for the last time! Yes!
I'll have the same instructor as last year (who was great last year) and rather than worry about keeping up with your V-8 ass I'm spending my money learning so that I can then pass your V-8 ass ;-).
I thoguht about being in G3, and as fun as it would be and the stories it'd generate, this is my favorite event of the year and where I learned the most last year, so I'm focusing on that aspect. Plus this way I can ride in the Moostang.

Thanks dude!
Na, not a street machine anymore. I'm not sure of the legaltiies of 6-point harnesses, race seats, and a cage, but I can be sure that if I'm doing anything but the speedlimit I'll be pulled over just because...
