Looks like Honda is poised to enter LMP2 to do battle with Porsche and Mazda. Chances are it'll be Honda Performance Development heading things up (Honda of America racing arm responsible for the CART and IRL programs of the past/current) and I'm pretty happy bout that since they need a new challenge since Toyota and GM pulled out of IRL and CART went to a spec engine.
To be honest I'm not so sure they can beat Porsche if they're not building their own chassis but I guess we'll see. Gives me a reason to watch ALMS again for sure.

Yeah HPD might come to the same conclusion the Honda F1 guys did: if you want to win you've gotta build the chassis too.

They didnt build the chassis in IRL or CART but they managed to win races And the F1 guys havent won anything yet But Mclaren won with Honda engines enough....
If the chassis/team is good, they'll win with the right engine.

True. BAR was not exactly the cream of the crop when it came to F1 chassis makers, had Honda teamed with McLaren or Williams again they might have already won another championship. However, in the case of LMP2 the Courage chassis is what Mazda is using and they're not enjoying much success.
Admittedly I'm not intimate with what LMP2 chassis are available so who knows which ones have got the goods and which ones don't.

There have been relatively few IRL or CART chassis to pick from (if they arent spec'ed entirely, like CART this year) so that wasnt as big of a factor. When you have a bigger differential in chassis, like the Porsche chassis has been shown to have (just like Audi in LMP1), Honda is going to come up with something better than a Lola if they want to win.

It'll be an Acura branded program with what looks like more than one team using both a Courage and a Lola chassis. The ultimate goal is to move to LMP1 (who knows when) and go for an overall 24 hours of Le Mans win.
HPD has an impressive resume so I think they'll be up for the challenge. Hard to say whether Porsche will prove to be a more formidable opponent than what they've faced before in IRL and CART.
Looks like I'll be headed to Sebring next year 8)
