When "Keeping it Real" goes wrong
#1
Well we havent had a politically charged thread here in a while - so its time to stir the pot a bit.

I've been following this on another board, and to be honest I'm really dissapointed how politicians in this country act. Its a shame that some people cannot stand up and take responsibility, and continue to make a complete and total ass of themselves in the public eye.

Unfortunately, she will probably get re-elected for "keeping it real" and "standing up against the man".

Quote:An unconfirmed statement attributed to McKinney has been released on the Internet, where she allegedly claims to have been harassed by Capitol Hill Police.

The statement's writer says that she has been harassed by white police officers she says do not recognize her due to her recently changed hairstyle.

"Do I have to contact the police every time I change my hairstyle? How do we account for the fact that when I wore my braids every day for 11 years, I still faced this problem, primarily from certain white police officers," the statement says.

Quote:"Because she was assaulted and placed in impending fear of her safety, she responded," he said. "This case has just begun and we're going to fight, and we're going to use the U.S. Constitution."

Myart further called the incident racial profiling and said there was "no excuse" for Capitol Police not recognizing his client, and Raffauf said she was stopped solely because of her race, gender and politics.

Quote:Her supporters tried to minimize the incident -- which they called political, not criminal -- but they also suggested it was an example of racial profiling. They called publicity surrounding the episode a distraction that is being used by "her enemies" to keep the congresswoman from performing her elected duties.

Apparently there was an interview with Wolf Blitzer, in which he brought up statements that she made - and she accused him of twisting her words, yet they replayed the tapes and confirmed those were her words.

People who go right to the racial relations do a great disservice to their race.

Racists calling others racist.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

When someone the security officer doesn't recognize walks by the metal detector I sure hope he would go up and stop them. It's absurd that she is complaining about a guy just doing his job.

Number one, you have ZERO excuse for assaulting an officer, even if he was racially profiling you.

Number two, the rule is that you should be wearing your lapel pin or whatever in order to enter the building. She wasn't wearing it and instead of stopping to explain she had forgotten she thought she'd just walk on through. That cop would not have been doing his job had he not stopped her.

Yet another misuse of the race card. Case closed.

All charges will probably be dropped, but yeah the cops verifies EVERYONE'S lapel pin. She wasn't being specifically chosen, she was violating the rules.

I can't think of where I heard it before, but I heard that she has done this in the past and that she refuses to wear the pin because she thinks the security guards should recognize her by now.

<sarcasm>You know I'm behind her 100%, I'm now going to start walking into my building and refuse to wear my security badge. If anyone but a white security officer so much as puts a hand on me I'm going to punch them and call it racism, they're just trying to get back at the man. </sarcasm> :?

What the hell is wrong with these people, the man was politely doing his job, enforcing the rules and she pulls this crap. I mean I could see her accusing him of excessive force had he stopped her and beat her down for walking through without the pin, but all he did was touch her on the arm from the accounts I read.

couldn't agree more. she's not above the law and you DON'T assault an officer for whatever reason. She forgot her badge, she needs to explain, and i think everyone knows it. The people who think this is racial profiling are ignorant (unless i'm missing something from the story that's not explained).

they don't need to recognize everyone that walks in. if they recognize you and let you through without a badge they are being nice, but they're not actually following the rules and actually could be reprimanded for it.

no controversy here...

you'll realize just how stupid this incident is and how vague her answers are, she's dodging the actual event and bringing up 'relevant' topics.

Yeah in my building most of the security folks are black and they recognize me but I still have to show my badge.

Bitch in 1st video: "I was stopped because I am a black female."
Wolf in 2nd video: "So you're saying your stopping was racially motivated."
Bitch in 2nd video: "Wolf, don't twist my words. You know what I said, watch the video."

Anyone remember this?
"See, I never just did things just to do them. Come on, what am I gonna do? Just all of a sudden jump up and grind my feet on somebody's couch like it's something to do? Come on. I got a little more sense then that. [pause] Yeah, I remember grinding my feet on Eddie's couch."
