You know what I think would be really, really cool?

If Volkswagon would make a small, inexpensive, nimble platform with high performance based on low weight.

Oh wait...

It'd be cool if Honda did that, too.

VW is missing the point of the "tuner" market. (not to mention they arent the first company to use the "pre tuned" marketing angle)
Its more about style, customization, and uniqueness than anything else (including performance)
So far Scion has been the closest to getting it right, with a whole catalog full of customizations available right from the start

but yeah, funny commercials

I'm not really a fan of VW's, nor the GTI with its little chrome strip bumper thing it's got going on there, but these commercials are just too good :lol:

the mk5 GTI is a hot car- 300 hp with only chip and exhaust... bad ass new FSI (direct injection) 2L turbo motor INDEPENDENT REAR SUSPENSION (finally) and the automatic (DSG) transmission thats bad ass.. eventhough id rahter have the 6 speed.

car and driver just tested the GTI vs the new civic SI.. the GTI won. its getting lots of credit from people who say the last REAL GTI was the MK2 16v.

but on topic.. i love the commercials.. they are GREAT

I love the one with the riced out focus with "The Flame" on the back. They peel off the "F" and stick it on the guys shirt as she grades him with an F for the car. then they smash the car... cracks me up everytime.

what bumper thing are you refering to - i didnt see any chrome

I sat in the new GTi 2 the philly auto show - it was alright, the seating postion wasnt my favorite - felt like a minivan, and I didnt really like the big empty space in between the console and the dashboard

i was reading about this and i think it's a great car. I also read the same article that Blair did (regarding it finally being a sporty Gti relaying back to the 16v and its competition back in the day.)

the chrome is for the jetta and passat i believe. All black for the grill, very simiar to the new a3's and a4's for the grille styling.

If i was in the market for a new car this would be amazing!

ah very good, I wasn't paying attention I guess. And they even brought back the little red stripe! :wink: Well the black definatly looks better, that's for sure. BMW has a similar "random chrome mustache" thing going on on the 3, 5, and 6, and I hate it similarly.

Lol I kind of appreciated the weird beauty of the older golfs, but dude this new one is funky and off and no shape at all but a big ugly blob. Ive sat in one at an autoshow and it seemed like the previous generation civic si hatchback, if you liked it then the golf is more your car, if you like cockpit feel and that of a sports car, then it isnt for you.

Then again I was oogling over the new saturn sky, that thing is crazy hot!!

I like it but its way too big and clunky. There were a few at the recent car show we went too and it almost looks like a mini-2door-suv.

yea i have always hated new generations of vw's at first.. but for some reason this car really appeals to me.

who would keep em stock anyways. slamm the bitch with some coilovers and 300hp with like 1000 bucks. hell yea

white deff. looks PIMP

i have watched the commercials like 50 times.. that are so fucking awesome hahahaha. wenever VW releaces a new GTI they always have kick ass commercials.. i remember the ones for the MK3 and MK4..they are all bad ass
