GT Live at VIR Oct 6-8 w/ Grand Am
#1
The gate staff at VIR today was handing out flyers announcing GT Live is coming to VIR Oct 6-8! (same weekend with Grand Am)
Pretty exciting stuff, I dont recall hearing any rumors about it.

I know its a far way off, but who is in?

after reading the flyer again, it looks like there wont actually be GT Live racing, just the "motorsports theme park" (ie hyperfest stuff) component

Find a team and ask. Most likely unless you know them well and have a bunch of experience you are going to be SOL. The majority of GrandAm teams have dedicated crew that work on the car every day, they usually pick up a few extra hands to serve as bitches, but if you can get it, it would be very worth wild.

Actually you can probably get with a team even if you don't know them, that's what I did the times I crewed for Grand Am/Grand Am Cup. A lot of teams have dedicated crew but several of them use local helpers from each track.

When we went to JGTC in Cali the paddock events were a lot of fun but I can almost guarantee you that there won't be any Super GT cars there unless a few cars that are not running the series this year show up. Super GT has a race the very next weekend in Japan and there are no US rounds on the Super GT schedule right now.

Its unfortunate but back in 2004 the GT Live promoters couldn't get everything together to have Super GT return that December. They put out a press release apologizing for not being able to make it happen, yet they promised 3 events in 2005. When I read that, I knew the writing was on the wall because if you can't get one event together there is no way in hell you're going to get three, that's just the nature of motorsport.

Anyway, I hope Super GT gets over here in 2007 or something. This the perfect time for them to expand because IRL/CART are weak over here and FIA GT is not really worldwide yet.

I'll talk to him tonight. It isn't a 'Boy Racer' though. Most likely they won't need anyone else b/c their crew is flying all over the country, last week (or 2 weeks ago, I forget) they were at Daytona crewing. What I will do is see if I can get us some pit passes Wink.

The GT Live people were really pumping the event at AMASBK last weekend. I was talking to the media director at VIR and he had a lot of good things to say about the upcoming weekend.

I'm thinking we could probably get a group discount if we can get 15-20 people out there. There are going to be 2-6 hour races for Grand Am Cup and a ton of other on track activities so I'm sure it'll be well worth the trip. Grand Am Cup is definitely some of the most exciting production-based car racing on TV right now.

Really of all the races we could get a group together for, this would probably be the best since its not that far away and has enough going on the entire weekend. I'd say camping out would be the most fun, I had a rather pleasant time camping at VIR last weekend. There were plenty of clean showers all you'd need is some coolers and grills.

Who'd be interested in heading out to this? Check out some more info here at http://www.gtlivetour.com

I'd be down for this if I can get the MR2's issues squared away so I can track it the following weekend.
