Is it bad for an engine to run at RPMs lower than at normal idle, I don't see why it would be, but I don't know if there is something magical about the idling RPMs. I was thinking about it today when I was puttering around town in 5th gear at a few hundred below idling
well, oil pressure is very low down there, you don't really want to load the engine at low RPM. With the low oil pressure and slow water pump speed, the engine doesn't have much chance to keep itself cool.
i wonder if that's hard on bearings too, especially if its under load?
