Project 2000 Miata

so i realized that i never made one of these threads.

some of you havent seen the car, so here it is when i bought it:

since then, i've added the following:
-sparco pro2000 seat (from my integra and 240)
-OMP seatbase
-carbotech XP8's in the front
-hard dog hardcore single diagonal roll bar
-G-Force 6 pt harnesses
-Kosei K1 15x7 wheels (painted bronze from my integra) and the falken azenis that were still on it
-all new fluids (oil, tranny, rear diff, coolant) and will get to the brake fluid soon

i'll get some newer pics of all this shit soon as soon as i get unlazy. i will also get pics of the 4 stitches i got from slicing myself while putting in my harnesses.

stuff to do hopefully before VIR:
-ATE superblue
-stainless steel lines
-injen intake that came with the car (jayray, still got that k&n filter?)
-mount passenger harnesses (evan's old 6pt harnesses)
-hardtop
-maybe install the MP3 cd player in it, or possibly XM or sirius sat radio
-a more visible MM sticker (anyone have those yellow MM's with black "madison motorsports" under it?)

this is a sweet project, another miata roadster for MM!!!

you can hang on to it until g-force if we both end up going. if not, i'll try to make my way up to nova sometime soon.

i wanted the single diagonal so it didnt block my rearview too much. the pic on the website showed the single diagonal going all the way from the top corner to the bottom corner, but they sent me this "half double" thing. i dont mind too much, but it wasnt quite what i was looking for

so some of you know that it was making a sorta funny sound on the way home from VIR. it seemed to be coming from the pulley slightly wobbling, so i went ahead and ordered all the parts to replace the pulley and harmonic balancer... yay for working on cars :?

i've been workin on this car all day today. replaced every part there and its still making some grinding noise. i have no idea what else it could be. perhaps the a/c compressor which is right next to it? maybe something internal on the crank? anyone have any other ideas?

get a scope, they are pretty cheap. that will let you pinpoint where the grinding is coming from

so if i leave that belt off (ie: no a/c and no ps) that wont adversely affect anything right? i can try to see if that sound remains if i take that belt off

so after taking that belt off and starting it, it still made the horrible noise. however, examining the water pump pulley made me realize that i've found the culprit! the water pump is fux0r3d and spinning it by hand reproduced the same sound. it still spins, it just wobbles and makes an awful sound, so my never ending quest for a working automobile continues.

water pump and pulley have been replaced and it runs as quiet as before. spinning the old water pump by hand makes this weird clicking noise which is what i'm sure i heard when spinning at 1000 rpms
