Has anyone here undertaken a trip of more than a few hours / couple hundred miles? Any cross country riders in the club? I'm just curious to hear some impressions and stories, as I scheme about a future trip...

I rode from DC to Chesapeake VA. 200+ miles 4+ hours. It was long. Some serious crotch rot going on. I would have to think long and hard before doing another trip like that.
Thought about getting an aftermarket seat for your RR? I hear a lot of people complain about their RR's seat hardness and if I end up with one I'll probably check that out. Right now its looking like I'll be getting a F4i tho.

I can do 4 hrs on my busted ass FZ without much problem, other than a really sore ass - I would think that with a newer bike it should be no problem.

Don't really want an aftermarket seat as the bike is pretty tall right now and I'm short.
The aggressive seating position on the RR is the main factor that soreness and fatigue. I am not sure what your bike is like RJ, but older bikes I have sat on were much more relaxed and had big soft seats.
You could get some helibars.... but I wouldn't.
I just move around on really long trips. I did about 6 hours in one stint once, 10 hours that day total, when I got lost on the way to Chapin's. My bike is a little more upright than yours, but by no means comfortable.
I just shift my weight around, lean on the tank, put my legs up on the passenger pegs, put 'em on the radiator, crank covers, etc. etc. You've got to stop pretty frequently for gas, anyways, just stand up, strech, and make sure you eat properly - you use a lot more energy sitting on the bike than you think.
A lot of people think soft = comfortable. Don't get lead down that path. I raced bicycles for 5 years and I saw so many people with circulation problems because they bought big, soft seats that were comfortable for 20 minutes. Once you sit on one of those seats in the same position for an hour or so, or whatever time, they comform to your body, once they comform they feel just as hard as everything else. A seat that supports your bone structure is much more effective (but good luck with that). Otherwise it doesn't make too much of a difference over the long haul. C'mon now, man up!

Are you sitting on your nuts??? I sit pretty close to the tank. I have hit a few bumps that bounced back right into the sack. That sucks.
My longest ride started out at home in Alexandria. I rode out to Manassas and on the way had my saddle bags fall of on 495 and get clobered by a car.
When I made it to Mannasas I met up with some other guys and we rode on back roads all the way to goochland (west of Richmond). Once there we got food, then it started to rain. Did I mention it got down into the 40's at that point? So yeah, road from Goochland back to Alexandria in 40 degree weather in the rain.... And it was still fun
