I've done plenty of autocrossing and ridden along on a few tracks throughout the country in hpde's, but I had never been karting. So over winter break I grab some people from ccvt and we went down to G-Force (after hearing so much about it from you guys). We did three races and had a blast. On my third race I was running consistant 25's. Our fastest was stephen, who qualified for super karts on only his second race (He's also a fellow autocrosser, he was my competition in STS before I moved to SM).
So, a few weeks later (today), I'm back in Richmond for my National Guard stuff so me and a buddy that lives here decided to go back. Ran a few races and there was tons of traffic. I hit some 24's but couldnt get 5 of them. There where a decent number of girls running in the 40 second range. Even so, actually racing with other people is sooo much fun. It really makes me want to hurry up and join SE-R cup even sooner. During one lap I saw some congestion ahead, three karts. I knew I was going to catch up to them at that 180 degree hairpin and sure enough I did. I managed to cut through all three of them without any problem and loosing almsot no speed. I had such a huge smile on my face after making it through that mess.
We decided to wait a little while and let the crowd die down and then try to qualify for super karts. Just the two of us went out on the track. I hit three 24's and a bunch of 25.0xx's. I decided to give it one more try (this time there were a few more people with us too). I didnt think I made it, but I turned out 11 sub 25 second lap times with a fastest lap of 24.3 and average lap time of 25.103. Next time I go I'll have to try out the superkarts, although I think I may stick with the regular karts for awhile. I'd like to get down into the 23's.
Anyways, there really isnt much of a point to this story. Just that I'm going to be wasting even more of my money on crap like this. Wonder how long it will take me to build up an se-r cup car ...
And then I found five dollars.

yeah g-force is a blast. i really liked their track layout and except for Jack-0 getting a flat all the karts were pretty consistent.
if you qualify for superkarts will you end up getting your paperwork for it? i qualified as well but since i never really make it up there i didn't bother to pay for it

I second the idea of a join MM/CCVT karting event. We had floated the idea a few years ago with the UVA guys but they didn't seem too interested. Maybe its high time we got this going.

I started talking with the other officers at ccvt earlier last semester. We definatley want to do this, maybe make it into a pretty big event. Here is what I we were thinking.
The event would start out on Friday evening at VMP. They have a test and tune there and we could all go drag race and just hang out. The club would probably spring for a couple cheap hotel rooms in the area. Saturday we could head over to G-Force and do a 4 person per team endurance race. The teams would consist of 2 MM members and 2 CCVT members. That way its still a competition, but not just one club against another. It should also help you get to know members of the other club. Maybe go out to eat after that, and be back at school early Saturday night. What do you guys think?

That sounds like an excellent idea. Do they allow bikes at the VMP test and tune?

It's been my experience that most tracks allow it, but you must have full leathers, gloves, boots, and obviously a helmet. I don't know for sure though.

Wow sounds perfect, glad I wasnt the only one thinking of that. We should definitely do that, although not till the spring (gives me an excuse to have time to finish up my car so I can actually drag race)

By the next PCA event we should have plenty of working karts that are consistent.

consistent as in won't break or consistent as in i won't be getting smoked by everyone in one and then hop in another and pull an FTD? cause that is how it has been these last two events...

Jeff is back from his trip to europe, and I've increased my hours there to free him up to sit back in the mechanics bay every evening so that he can get things back to the way they were before he left. Consistent karts that don't break down all the time. Dan's also back from Brazil so that means we have an asshole in the tower again that will actually enforce the rules unlike the the kids that work the track now that allowed everything under the sun to happen.

Isnt it cheaper on mondays? Not cheaper, but usually on Mondays and Tuesdays you get a 12 minute session instead of 8, the price doesn't change though. Since we're doing 2 for 1 in Jan though we're not doing the 12 minute races. Those will resume in February.
You should do an intermingled MM/CCVT kart day. Don't make a competition between schools. You could do 2MM/2CCVT members per team in an enduro.
