Trying to purchase two new tires for my front wheels. I already grabbed a pair of cheap tires with good tread to throw on the back.
Requirements are: Y or Z rated, 205 55 16, some kind of summer high performance tire that will offer good traction at the strip.
Because they don't make Nitto 555R's in 16's anymore (and I can't really afford them) I'm thinking Azeni's or ???

There is no better street tire for the money.
So I've heard, but I don't keep up on this stuff and I'm sure new tires are always being designed.
I've actually decided against grabbing some now but if anyone else has some ideas, comments or reviews on tires let me hear them so when I do look into buying a set I'll know what's up.

Azenis make for a pretty shitty daily driver/street tire if you dont plan on doing any autocrossing or track days, IMO.
The Kumho Ecsta MX is pretty good - better in the wet and not as noisy, although not quite as sticky as the Azenis.
I was less than impressed with the Yok AVS ES100's on a student's car.

I'm rollin MXs on my rears right now and I must say I'm pretty happy with them. Much better than my 712s, that's for sure.
Expensive tires are for people with real jobs; get Azenis or something else that's cheap.

Sadly I will have to go with something cheap and crappy.
I'll give the MX's a good look. I'm rocking 712's now and don't hate them...they just wore out quick.
Evan can thank me for that set up.

Yeah, I was wearing out my 712s in the 4 months, course my alignment was WAY off. Fixed that when I put these MXs on and they seem to be doing real well.
When I say wearing out, I mean cords showing, btw
I hope you Azenis gangstas aint having any problems today. I saw one accident already.

my azenis do fine in the rain... but from what i hear they dont make the best "drag" tire... the guys at the local shop (local cause its right next to my work) are all drag peeps basically and they swear off azenis for anything but autox or hpdes

Did the car have Azenis on it? Otherwise I'm not seeing the relation between that crash you saw and us driving on Azenis needing to be careful. FWIW - my Azenis kick ass in the rain compared to the 711s.

well when its raining i would hope that noone is trying to push their tires to the limit cause thats hella dangerous no matter where you are, so even if a tire didnt perform well when its wet you should be reducing your speed to avoid having to find out if your tires handle well when its wet.
Anyways some REALLY cheap tires that were really grippy that i had before my michelins were Nankangs NS-1. As for being a drag tire.........well seeing how i have 105 flywheel horses i would have no idea if theyd be good for drag traction, although they did very well in handling, you can pick em up for like 60 bucks a tire, theyre hella cheap. They were way way way grippier than the kumho 711s i had and about the same price. They got directional tread too so i never hydroplaned, but i reduce speed like crazy when its wet so im not positive on wet handling.

Wet conditions cause accidents, and I have heard from y'all that Z rated tires especially are not good in the rain. Sorry no personal experience there. FWIW? come again?

A tire's speed rating has nothing to do with its wet weather performance....

yea i had never heard of a tires speed rating affecting how they perform in adverse conditions. Its just that a lot of Z rated tires aren't all season tires so they may not perform as well as an all season tire(most regular tires you buy are all season) in adverse conditions but a non all season should grip better in dry conditions than an all season. It's one of those trade off things.

anybody used Dunlop FM901s? I'm going to wrap new tires in 15x6 rims, so I want a 195/5x-15 size and azenis don't qualify.

Azenis grip well cold too, which should benefit the draggiez too. Not arguing with them, I just wonder why they say that.

Havent heard much positive review about them.
What are you looking for? Summer tire? All season?

I'm going to have to agree with Evan on this. I don't know who you were talking to but many drag racers will tell you Azeni's are nice and sticky and a good street tire to run at the strip.
