Bell M2 or G-Force Hybrid
#1
My GF's dad, Jon, is getting a helmet for Christmas. Which is better? The reason I picked these two was because they were available in Auto-X beginner packages and they seemed like good helmets. I was actually about to get the M2. Long story short. Do any of you guys have any particular insights for Auto-X beginners.

Neither of us have the time and he likes the fit of my Sport 3 so we know what size and what he's looking for.

Well, if you can get up there its worth it. Not all bell helmets fit the same (M2 and M3 hurt my head, while an M3 pro fit perfect) and the fitment will change between brands as well.

you really do have to try them on... like rj, the m2 and m3 hurt my head, but the m3 pro fits like a glove. if a helmet doesn't fit perfect you might as well not wear it.

He's only going to be auto-xing so he doesn't need a pro helmet. I think an entry level helmet will be fine.

as long as it fits... none of the entry level helmets fit me so i ended up getting the cheapest "pro" helmet, which sports a slightly narrower fit. it cost me like $400, but i'd like to think what is inside my head is worth more than that.

if he can get away with a $150 that fits right then by all means go for it! as long as it is certified it is just as safe as a $500 one. i'd also recommend you go for closed face... i'm not a fan of open-faced helmets for obvious reasons (my mug is too pretty to be bashed on a steering wheel).

The more expensive helmets get you more 'features' (removeable liners, better venting, lighter shell, etc) and better quality fasteners/hardware.

the high dollar carbon / kevlar helmets are lighter, and thus more safe, since less mass attached is being accelerated in a crash.

Not always - the high dollar sparco helmets are actually heavier than the $300 bell/simpson variety. There's some reason for it, and the guy at OG 'splained it but I didnt really understand.

A M3 Bell helmet while driving a M3 would be a nice combination. Any pictures for reference?

I said carbon/kevlar, not sparco
sparco helmets are fiberglass

point being, a lighter helmet is a safer helmet, and lighter helmets are more expensive.

this is true, my roommate has switched over to a carbon fiber impact helmet and he says its a world of difference on his kart. problem is that those helmets are $1G bling

We went to OG, tried on a butt load of helmets but it was well worth it cause he found a helmet that he liked and it was 40 cheaper there than online.
