The eclipse is broke

The eclipse is broke Sad. Well i knew i had an exhaust leak, but upon further inspection we found a crack in the mani. No biggie, it can be rewelded, and i just gotta order a new DP gasket to fix the exhaust leak. The thing that is relly pissin me off is this. I went to crank the car up before knowing bout the manifold. Would turn over like normally does, but it wouldnt crank, i continue to try, nothing. I hear my Fuel Pump priming, look under the hood im showing fuel pressure on the gauge. So i figure its a spark problem, test my coil, get some funky numbers, replace it with my old one that was originally on the car. Car turns over and over for bout ten seconds, sputters, then cranks and runs. Turn it off to test again, nothing until about 15-20 seconds later it sputters, sputters, then picks up and runs normal. Drive aroudn the parking lot, car cuts off and wont crank again. I have yet to check my Spark plugs, or my wires, but i figured it woudl atleast crank and it would be missing being as the odds of all four of them going out is like slim to none. I have read were my injectors may be sticking open, and flooding the engine???? or it could be my cam sensor????? Any other ideas as to why my POS isnt starting???? Also, no weird smoke, no oil spraying everywhere, no fuel leaks. Battery is fine, starter is fine, alternator is fine.

Sorry for the lengthy post.

Could be crank or cam sensors. before checking them, take a test light and backprobe the power side connector for the coil. run the other side of the light to ground and crank the car, if it flashes then you have ground and the triggering device is working. if it stays on constant or doesn't come on at all, there is a good chance its the cam or crank sensor,or ignition module.

That sucks bro, good luck locating the problem. It's only a matter of time before something like this happens to my car too.

Maybe check the seal around your blow off valve (if you have one, I dunno). I blew my blow off valve off because I didn't tighten it down enough, and the car cut off and wouldn't start. Worth a look anyhow!

Well you need fuel, spark and compression. Figure out which one you are missing then get out the service manual and voltmeter Smile

well...pulled the plugs today, lets just say i need new ones. Running so rich put a hurting on those bad boys. 3 out of 4 of the plugs looked fouled according to some pics on the NGK website. So im gonna order some new plugs and see how she goes. Also, when i pulled the plugs out i looked into the cylinders and they were wet with fuel, so i know my injectors arent sticking open/leaking now to.

Running that rich might have affected your O2 sensor as well.

i wonder about a vacuum leak maybe? i can't think of anything else that would make your car run intermitently like that.

I think you need to hit up a Neon forum and see whats up. They can prolly give you a proven map or whatever for your setup. This Megasquirt thing has got to be the weak link here. There is no point running the car around on it as it will likely only do more damage. I have never really seen a megasquirt work reliably on a street car. See if the Neon guys have anything more street reliable you could use. Even if it means getting a 98 R/T wiring harness and making it work.

For what it's worth, if it's the tune, it might be worth investing 400 or 500 bucks for a custom tune. I've grown to LOVE installing stuff on my car and playing around with / tweaking it.... but one thing I will not do is plug a laptop into my UTEC and tune it myself.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to learn, but even after learning I still wouldn't trust myself with that much power over my car. There are so many variables in tuning that can make or break your car. If you're willing to spend the money and know of a good tuner, it's worth every penny imo to get the dyno time and road tune together.

Mach V Motorsports in Sterling works largely with DSMs and Subaru's. One of the guys there is supposedly a really good tuner, although I hate giving that place money because they suck and their prices are unbelievably high. You'd probably have good results with a tune from there though.... that's again assuming that the tune is your problem?

His name is Jason Hunt and I have already told this dumb boetch to drive up here for an hour or two on the dyno.

When my car is running I will drive down there and fix your shit...unless you truly believe in your heart of hearts that Keith will do a better job.
Of course his shit is mad fast.
