Hey guys. As some of you know, I volunteer for a local no-kill non-profit animal shelter called Caring for Creatures here in Fluvanna County. The way things stand now, we are currently over capacity in terms of the number of dogs that the shelter can hold, and take care of in monetary terms. This past weekend, a bit of an emergency arose. There was a local couple who had taken in over 100 (yes... one hundred) dogs and probably around 20 cats over the course of their lives, and the husband passed away on Saturday. The wife, being elderly, is no longer able to take care of the animals, and "surrendered" the animals to CFC. Long story short, we need all the help we can get.
If you or someone you know is looking to adopt a dog, please let me know and I can get you in touch with the shelter. If you have a few extra bucks, or a few extra bags of dog food, collars, leashes... anything... the shelter can use any help they can get. Please also pass along word to anyone that you know who might be able to help. This shelter and the animals have become a very important part of my life- I wouldn't ask for your help otherwise.

man i wish i could take one of those dogs off your hands (always wanted one), i just don't have the necessary time to do it.... :?
Could we transport them to other animal shelters?

daily progress said it was 97 dogs and 10 cats. i heard about this, but unfortunately i dont think we can take any dogs. but man, i want one.

Yes. They are looking for drivers to transport some of the dogs to other shelters... mainly in New England. I believe that they are going to try to borrow vans from other organizations, and if anyone has a large vehicle that they might be willing to haul 10 or so dogs to Maine... Any help, like I said.

97 dogs outside... there were another 10 inside the house, from what I heard at the shelter today.

You mean that there weren't 100 some pure bred German Sheperds wandering around Fluvanna County that this couple took in? I'm shocked.
Well if no German Sheperds, did they at least have pure bred Malimutes, Akitas, or Basset Hounds? Keep in mind I only want pure breds, because I'm sure there are plenty of them that are out there all alone with their paperwork attached to them that a random old couple can take in. :wink:

To bring this thread slightly back on topic - if you just want a nice, friendly dog in your life, come down to the CFC shelter (or any animal shelter for that matter) and adopt. These are not pure breds by any stretch of the imagination, for the most part they're dogs that have been completely let down by humans, yet are still willing to give new people a chance.
