Its on my list....
What is the best year to get, engine changes? From 1990-2004 what is the best year if the car is going to be a combination track car/daily driver? To be trackable do you need a roll cage? Hardtop? Thanks for the info I really like these cars and would like to get some tracktime!
Is the Mazdaspeed Miata worth it? What are the horsepower gains?
Looking on Cars.com they range from $5,500 for a 1990 to $20,777 for a 2004. That is a huge ass range!

if you're rocking double duty i'd go with a newer one, which has a 1.8L engine and will just in general be a better car to drive around in every day.
roll cage? no. rollbar? yes.
mazdaspeed? waste of money.

99 Sport Package, IMO.
The 'm2' (99-04) is a much nicer car inside and out and has a better suspension than the 'm1' (90-97). I picked mine up for $7k with 89k miles and it already had the rollbar, bilstein/ground control suspension and a few other nice things. There's plenty of good deals out there.

If you have the budget, definately go for a 99 or 2000. RJ got a damn good deal on his.
A nice 94 or 95 with lowish miles would be a good compromise too.
The 94s were the lightest of the 1.8s, and was the last year of the real oil pressure gauge.
a hardtop is not required for the track, but i wouldnt touch the track without one
Damn the 99 and 2000s I have finding on cars.com are in the 9000-10000 range. Ima try out craigslist!

hahaha, do that now and you'll spend about $400 on gas getting back
Who was that kid that drove all the way from South Carolina to come to Hyperfest last summer? He did that in a Miata, took him 12 hours or something. I am sure he was sore as hell after that trip.
How are Miatas on loooong drives?
