Figured that since I dipped my foot in the Honda pool by getting the S2000, I might as well dive in and go to the 1/4 mile track.
Details:
Stock car, 245 Toyo T1R's out back. Full tank of gas, and a 120lb ladyfriend riding shottie.
It was my first time ever to the strip, and ever launching this thing hard. I'm disappointed with my times, but I don't know much about dragging. Would ditching the girlfriend and running a low tank of gas (dropping maybe 200lbs total?) make a difference?
3rd (and final) run was the best time. Sidestepped the clutch at 8k ( hock: ), but the car bogged down to 4k after a second...where these things have no power. I have a feeling that if I launched it right (I honestly have no idea if I floored it after I dropped the clutch) and kept it above 6k, I would have much better times.
Anyway, the slip.
R/T: .348
60': 2.174
330: 6.272
1/8: 9.598
MPH: 75.65
1000: 12.436
1/4: 14.825
MPH: 93.97
I've seen a timeslip of a stock car once at 13.66, but I don't expect to get anywhere near that. I was expecting low 14's, hoping for high 13's. So yeah, what can I blame my poor times on? Passenger/gas? Poor driving?
For reference, there was a no passenger AP2 running 14.11 at 97mph.
Good driving is all in the 60' time. A 2.174 on regular street tires in the fwd world isnt bad. For a rwd car, I would think you could do a little better.
Trap speed is a better indication of power. Taking out some weight would help some. What do other s2000's run stock? Also, what track your at (mainly elevation) plays a huge role. Where was this?

I pulled off a bunch of 2.3's in my ITR after never going to the drag strip before
w00t!

from my stoplight shenanigans i can say without a doubt, this is a hard fucking car to drag fast. you HAVE to keep the revs above 6k rpm or you're doomed. i think the only way to do it is launch around 7-8k, get the tires spinning and just go. when you launched at 8k did you keep the gas to the floor?

i forget the addage, but it's something like 100 pounds is worth a tenth of a second, or was it a mph in the trap speed? something like that.
run lower rear tire pressure, higher front for maximum traction in the back and minimal rolling resistance up front
try to get some wheelspin. it'll keep the clutch from taking the brunt of the slip and will keep your engine in the powerband for the initial launch instead of catching traction and bogging. somewhat like an awd launch.

actually scotty, with no torque - too low a tire pressure can kill us... it'll bog the engine down below vtec and then game over. i'm serious, this car is a weird f'ing beast to drive fast.

Your car does not make much power. Looks like you got out of the hole pretty well. Just not much up top.

Definitely lose the chick and run a quarter tank of race gas. And do what these guys said. I don't see why you shouldn't be in the high 13s.

Yeah, there's no way I'm gonna drop the rear pressures.
As for putting the pedal to the floor immediately after I dumped the clutch, I have no idea if I did it or not. Things happen pretty fast after you stage. All I know is it took like a second to get back up into VTEC, which friggin kills these things.
I was down at MIR.

No doubt.
whoa i said wierd... that is supposed to be weird. and yeah, race gas won't do a damn thing.

Do you S2k guys have to run 93 octane in those things?

that is the minimum, yes, but no detonation occurs while using it so race gas wouldn't really help.

No but control of the solenoid could force it to engage earlier in the rpm range.

Unless the ECU goes apeshit and the car just falls flat on its face with an earlier engagement.
