we could add a section for recently joined forum members to simply tell us who they are and how they found out about MM. This section would need a sticky at the top titled, "new members read this" and it could just give some general info about the club and what the site offers, and how to post pics, etc.

A thread would suffice, not a new section. Or do you mean like an announcements/faq section that only officers would post in?

the announcement/faq section is a good idea. I'm just thinking something a new member could go to first and learn a little more about what we do.

The information that they'd need could be stickied in that faq/announcement section.
I dunno yet though, we need more input on this.

eh, the stickying (what happens when you sticky a thread? :| ) of the IM and info thread was good enough IMHO. I think general club info should be on the main webpage, not really the kind of thing that needs an open forum and opinions. A forum "how-to" could be static like that as well.
However, I don't know about the "motorcycles" catagory. Hell, we don't even have a "cars" catagory! :? Seems like we need something between "Events" and "Lounge". Just something like "Automotive", for ON topic, NON-event discussion of motorized contraptions with wheels that can carry at least one human. Most of what's in "Lounge" already would be here instead. But threads dealing with hacked off fingers, Rick James, other non-auto funny links/pics/vids, beer rcommendations, and the price and or quality of Evan's mom would stick around in "Lounge". I think Dave's call for "evaluations" might merge well with this new catagory too? And there's a few recent threads in "Technical Discussion" that are longing for a new home as well. I am also proud to see that the "Appearance/Cosmetic" catagory has little use. Maybe ditch that and roll it in here too. "Driving Techniques", although similarly unused, is cool to me though, at least it had one real thread and hopefully will have a few more someday. The current # of catagories is more than plenty I think for our dedicated members, just offering my 2 cents as to a possible re-org.
As you can see, I'm supposed to be job hunting.
