Brand New Porsche Prototype

After a long hiatus Porsche is returning to prototypes with a brand new Le Mans LMP2 car. Penske Racing will be sole team campaigning it in 2006 (kind of like the 917 back in the day...) but it might even show up at Petit Le Mans this year (1000 km race at Road Atlanta).

Mazda has already gotten back into prototypes with their rotary-powered LMP2 car. I hope the new Mazda lays the smack down on Porsche the same way the 787B did on the GT1 Tongue Should be some good racing.

Will be very intesrting to see. Porsche hasn't had much success in prototype/formula racing in quite a long time.

Good to see porsche back in endurance racing. The Warsteiner/Mobil liverie'd GT1 Porsche's are one of my favorite race cars ever Smile Behind the 917/30 of course Wink

Does anyone know what famous quote Mark Donahue made in reference to this car?

Hint: This car made over 1000 hp and could easily do burnouts at high speeds

That is not funny.
His life was taken in a tragic accident.

I know his car was considered to be an "Unfair Advantage"
I read that 1400hp was available at the twist of a knob.

I thought it was funny, I had to choke down laughing out loud here in my cubicle farm.

I know Mark Donahue did have a huge shunt with that very car and he eventually died in a F1 car but even he had a sense of humor about crashing.

P.S. Unfair Advantage was definitely my favorite motorsport book. A must read for the hardcore racing fan.

Donahue crashed the 917's more than once - including an incident at road atlanta that scattered the entire car across the track with nothing left but the bare frame.

The quote was something to the effect of needing enough power to spin the tires all the way down the back straight Wink

Does that Porsche Prototype strike anyone else like an Enzo?
