Clutch button thingie?
#1
So i finally got out the tools today in an effort to find out why my radio gets static whenever I use the clutch. I disconnected the antenna wire and sure enough, no more static, but no more reception either. Good, I had located the issue... Something with the antenna and clutch. Interference caused by dis/engagement? Sounds silly. Instead, I traced the antenna through the dash to where it comes closest to the clutch pedal, moved it far away, reattached to stereo, still static. Weird.

I then tried a multitude of other things and finally found the source of the static... A little button above the clutch pedal that is pushed in when the clutch is fully disengaged. Long story short, I put tape over this button so it no longer moves except for the tiniest bit (necessary to turn the car on). My question - what would happen if I cut the wires or pulled the plug on this sensor? Would the car not turn on? Or would it always think the car was ok to turn on?

On second thought, I could just bend the bracket for this button so it is always in the position of thinking the clutch is disengaged (will turn on).

Anyone ever mess with these?

I believe that's your neutral safety switch/or something like that. Tells the comp your foot is on the clutch so it allows you to start your car.
Hey Mike, considering you don't have parking brakes, maybe you should get crackin' on those Big Grin

Yeah I know what the switch is for, but will clipping the wires cause it to always think it's ok to turn on, or the opposite?

Parking brake? PITA.

Just jumper the switch, you can then start it in gear (if you want)

If you want the car to think that your clutch is always pushed in, cut the wires from the button and splice them together. If you want the car to think that your clutch is always out (I.E. the car won't start) then cut the wires and keep them apart.

Thanks rex Smile I don't really care about the functionality, just want to not have the button moving because for some odd reason it was causing interference. I think I'll just yank the bitch and splice the wires.

All I did was unplug mine. No more need of the clutch on start up.

Most things are made to fail on "open"...which I'd guess would be that the car should turn on.
