Yet another reason why I won't be running Shenandoah

Hey chad - tie some kerosene rags around your ankles.

That guy was way off line in the vid, and he lost it. If you go off line down the chute at summit at the limit, you're going to lose it and hit something but we have no problems with that track.

Since then most of the walls have been moved back around the entire track.

Everyone can feel free to jump on the "hatuh" bandwagon about how unsafe that track is, but I encourage you to get out there and drive it for yourselves. Its a fantastic technical track, and its a great learning track. It will expose flaws in your driving and force you to work on them. I will be there instructing in June with NASA. I had a lot of reservations about the track before I went out last year - but after driving it, its much slower than it seems, and the amount of runoff is adequate given the speeds and configuration compared to most other tracks (summit, road atlanta, beaver, etc).

I'm sorry but Chad is right. Does technical = lots of walls and idiotic pavement design? No small surprise that this dude got launched because of that dumb ass turn.

There are other dangerous tracks like Watkins Glen or even RA in some spots but that doesn't make Shenandoah any better. They defintely could've done better with the track.

He got launched because it was one-lap, having zero prior seat time on the track, going 10/10ths on an unfamiliar track, and ending up way off line (blind crest with a bend in it) in an area that you need to excercise caution in.

What if he went down the chute flat out after never been there before? He's gonna hit something. What if he went up the climbing esses at VIR and lost it (most likely would with 500+ hp)? Or the kink at beaverun? He's gonna hit something. Not the track's fault.

Thats my big problem with the event.... 2 sessions of 2 timed laps each at each track.... its way too much $$ and travel time for hardly any seat time at each venue. If there was an east coast OTC (open track challenge) I'd be all over it.

Agreed. It is a technical track. However, I have over $40,000 invested in my car, I'm not about to drive somewhere I don't feel comfortable at. Nuff said.

Well if you dont feel completely comfortable then it is your call - however just because you're on a track doesnt mean you have to blast around at 10/10ths either - I did 3 days with carguys last year and the first day and a half or so was *very* slow learning and walking the track.

I'd still encourage you to give it a shot - you will learn quite a bit there even at 6 or 7/10ths, I sure did. Everyone that was there with carguys was glad they came out and had a blast with it - I wasnt the only one with apprehensions going out the first session friday.

The "correct" line is the one shown in my vid - which still sent the front wheels for a hop in my slow pos. If you were further to the right, things got very.... "interesting". The further off line you are (or not going straight), the worse it is. If you are in a high HP car, feathering the throttle as you go over the crest is best.

If you think thats bad.... try running the bowl/bridge section counter clockwise (backwards) hock:

Bottom line, that guy was way offline. If you drive any track and go into a corner 10/10 and on the wrong side of the track you are going to hit something. This guy made it worse by trying to make the corner instead of standing on the brakes when he was back on pavement. Had he done that, he could have easily slowed enough to not come into contact with anything immovable.

But hey, if you people want to leave your heads up your asses and pass on one of the most challenging tracks on the east coast, thats just more open track for me.

I will be there on friday for 2.5 hrs of tracktime, free of charge. If anyone wants to show up maybe Ill give you a ride and show you how horrible the track is...
