Hey guys,
Some of you may heard i've been thinking of selling the Si. She's treated me very well, and deciding whether or not to sell her has been a difficult decision that i have found the answer to. This is where i turn to you guys for some advice. She has 133K+ miles on her and has been maintained very well. She's incredibly fun to drive, but i want something different. My main reasons for selling her would be the remaining high resale value (most of the Si's i've seen were up for sale around 11K and 12K, but i was going to put her up for sale for around $9800), living in Northern Va or another Urban/Suburban environment (potential theft...again), and the want for more power and a different car. Second option was to replace all the aftermarket components and sell the parts and the car (i have all the parts i've replaced). I was looking for something rear-wheel driven and fairly reliable; the main use for the new car would be for a more daily driver while taking it out for HPDE occasionally. I don't plan on becoming a competition racer. I will have another car ('86 vw that i'm currently trying to make more reliable and more of a daily driver) so being without the Si for a little while won't be so bad. The main car i've been looking at has been the e36 m3, but i'm open to other suggestions. What do you guys think?
E36 M3 is a hell of a car. If your budget is around $15k for a good one, there isnt a better car for that money.

yeah, i'm capping my limit to a little over 15K for a new car. I want one that has preferrably low mileage, OBD-I...(i know the chances are slim, but i'm willing to search and travel) that's also unmodified. I wanted to use most of the money from the civic towards a down payment for an e36m3 and then take out a loan for the rest. Other factors are included in my timing of the purchase, which include the job i'll get after graduation (which still needs to happen, so that's kind of important....no job, no loan, no car). In the mean time though i'm making the gti the DD...i just need some new headlights (which is in the process.... :twisted: )
For God's sake, just get an E36 M3. Thats the car that we always recommend to everyone, yet nobody takes the plunge. DO IT!

deals are out there.. my boy just got a black 95 with 65k on it. overall condition is an 8 out of 10 for $14,200 the guy was asking 17k for it. It helps to have someone who knows the car well and can tear the car appart so you can talk the person selling it down easy.

but does it solve the codes? no. "brake light failure" "low oil temp" "emergency flashers blinking randomly"

Whats your point?
Any 10+ year old car is going to have a few things to take care of - but if you know the codes and you have a $60 shop manual you can troubleshoot and solve 99% of the issues.

It happens once or twice a month - its not worth my time to track down and fix. When I removed the center console I couldnt find any funny business with the wires or switch, and I suspect it has something to do with the alarm that was installed at one time.

the e36 m3 would be a bangarang car. even though you can afford the inital cost of the car make sure you can afford the insurance and other outrageous costs that come with owning a sports car, especially a bmw (tires, random parts that for no reason cost more because of your car, etc.)
ESPECIALLY look at insurance... that is the reason i've taken a sudden turn towards something else (again)

i actually checked the insurance, insuring a '97 2dr m3 would be $150 more a year to insure than my car....i'm not quite sure how that works, but that's what's making me lean more towards the e36, even the 325is, but if i buy an e36, i want the M. :twisted: , i'm still working out the costs for everything though. This will all take a quick turn for action when i get a job, i'm just 'setting the pins up so i can knock them down later' -- so to speak.
