Just died.
I don't think we've really discussed it, but what are your thoughts on all of this?
I think she should have been allowed to live...

I'm glad she finally died. About 15 years too late.
The real crime is that she had to starve to death (or die of thirst) over two weeks. Hell - we prosecute people for animal cruelty when a dog starves to death, but we can't make a brain dead woman's passing go more quickly or compassionately? Fucked up state of affairs, if you ask me.
My two feet.
I agree 100%
The issue is, starving her to death is viewed so differently than say just giving her a needle. Hell, we don't even starve murderers to death! Granted, they say she couldn't feel it, but who knows?

speaking of which, anyone see South Park last night?
she was kept out of a better place than here, i'm glad she was allowed to die to end her suffering. It just pains me that it had to be by starvation.
To document it here (and I'll be setting up a living will in the very near future because of this case) - If I am ever in a similar state (brain dead, vegatable, nobody home) then for God's sake someone please kill me. My *preference* would be getting strapped (loosely) into an F1 car and run into a wall at 200+ mph with my hands arranged in an "MM" across my chest, but a morphine overdose would probably be acceptable too.
There.
My two feet.
I'm glad she was allowed to die.
Personally though, I think the case made a mockery out of our government. No offense to Schiavo's family or anything, but our congress and President have bigger things to worry about. We have a huge deficit, a war, unemployment, soaring oil prices, but congress pushs all that aside to pass legislation that only applies to one person? Pretty dumb if you ask me. The government should have never gotten involved in this case, it was decided in courts almost 20 times before the media had a frenzy with it.

I concur wholeheartedly. I don't see Congress and the President making a big deal out of children getting killed by gun violence. Just a political puppet show really. Not making light of Schiavo's family but we have better things to worry about.

I agree with most of you, it should have ben between her and her family. This happens ALL the time, and it's sad. People have to let loved ones go. The only difference this time was that activist groups took up the cause and started a media frenzy because her parents refused to stop fighting and do the right thing. The law said again and again and AGAIN that she should be allowed to die because, as best they could tell, according to her husband, those were her wishes. Saying "she should have been allowed to live" is what her PARENTS wanted, and that's not how the law works.
And yeah, although not that funny of an episode, that Southpark pointed out what should be quite obvious. Pulling a feeding tube isn't playing god any more than putting it in is.
Can I sign up for your will too John? Actually, I plan on build a world rally car when I turn about 80, that should take care of me. 8)
Terry Schaivo's "life" was only a technicality. Her brain had liquified to the point where she had no thought or cogniscent ability.
Dont blame congress or the president, it was the Schaivo family and the media who pushed this into the political realm. The Schavios wanted exposure, and support because they didnt have a scientific leg to stand on, and the more they could politicise it, the better chance they had of prolonging her vegetative "life"
The media picked it up, whipped it into a controversy, which put the political press on, and caused the (over)reaction from congress.
Thankfully, the courts have refused to get involved, and the whole thing is finally over. And this post is the last Im even going to even think about it, because Im sick and tired of this big issue that the media has stirred up when there are much better things to be concerned with.

she must have swallowed the red pill and the parents are agents
i basically agree with everyone here. it was right for her to die, but i wish they could have done it humanely. such a tradgedy.
I don't think America would be ready to give her the lethal injection. Too bad. At least it's teaching us something
Maybe my editorial will get published in the breeze on monday. Keep your eyes peeled. hock:

Personally, I think drawing it out like this was uncalled for. I can't say what should have happened to her, I have no right to. I believe she should have passed on to wherever. But, a counter point. People said she was going to die anyways, but we all eventually die. Whether it be soon or later, does that give people the right to say when we should die? I believe this is another case of how screwed up our country actually is. Religion should NOT be mixed into politics or the course of medical procedurings. Religion is such a f-ed up topic in this country, everyone thinks their way is the only way, (for the most part, there are a few people hwo are sensitive to other religions, i'm just saying the country as a whole) and the fact that people were saying "it's god will" for her to live or die is just sickening.
On the politic side, they passed a legislation for all future cases, which is good. Maybe we can avoid this tragedy in the future.
All this became was a bunch of leftist activist groups trying to get their views in public. I really don't think anyone expect close friends and family, and a few protesters, genuinely cared about her.

leftists :?: :?:
edit: More leftist tomfoolery
Not to be a jerk but a lot of the uproar was the religious right although there were plenty on the left side (Death Row West Coast?) that were protesting about it too.
I agree that law and judicial decisions cannot be based on religion. It becomes a kind of murky issue because indeed much of the doctrine that is accept as 'correct' has its basis in religion but however much it is possible we need to keep the two separate.

They didn't pass legislation for all future cases, it was strictly for Terri Schiavo.
