My Summer Plans

Just thought I would update everyone on my internship situation for this summer. I had a bunch of phone interviews in the past month or so with resorts in SC (mostly near Charleston) and resorts in Florida. Some of the main ones I looked at were Fripp Island Resort in SC, Kiawah Island golf resort in SC, Amelia Island Plantation in FL, Sawgrass Marriott in FL, Wild Dunes Resort in SC, and Marriott Suites Clearwater beach on Sand Key FL.

Anyways, things went well and I had several offers and am still waiting to hear from a couple. I was offered a recreation internship position with Amelia Island and after much thought and advice from my professor I chose it. It was my top choice, but some of the other resorts had good intern programs and I didnt' want to pass them up.

So anyone traveling down through Florida this summer, please stop by (and have a free place to stay)!! I'll be near the city of Fernandina, about 45 min from Jacksonville. I'll be doing recreational programming and leading events for children, teens, and adults while learning different parts of the resort setting.

I start early (May 16th) and will be there for 16 weeks. The hardest part will be not being able to do track events, so I'll have to come up to Road Atl. or wherever to spectate or work and meet some of you.

thanks guys. I'm definately planning on some trips to hot'lanta and various tracks in Florida. Hopefully I'm not working constantly and will have some free time.

But yeah Spridel-er Boobies, if you need a car to drive and I'm at RA, RRR, or CMP, I'll be your RIO. You can drive Geeser2 for a few sessions on a race weekend.

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to say I'm still alive and now down in Amelia Island, FL. I just spent the last few hours catching up on the forum I've neglected for 2+ weeks :x (no damn internet). I'm having to borrow another intern's computer and internet.

Things have been great with the internship. The resort is really amazing and has some beautiful sights. Its really spread out, and takes a while to see everything. There is the main Amelia Inn (hotel with all ocean views) and several condo villas. I've been assisting members (those who pay $75k plus monthly dues) and guests in many different settings so far. I've done kids camp, group recreation activities on the beach, and learning customer service working at the information hut near the 2 main pools. All of the interns I'm working with are awesome and we go to the beach and bars all the time.

I'm really trying to make some RA or Roebling road events, its just hard getting 2 days off in a row. If anyone is traveling down through FL, Ameila Island is just past the Georgia border on 95. Please give me a call and stop by!

Best of luck with the GRM challenge- you guys seem to be doing great with it all. I really appologize I'm not there to help...

I think it is far from you, but I am leaving for Montgomery Alabama tomorrow. Maybe heading down to Pensacola to do some fishing as well.
