Is buying a Civic worth the risk?
#1
As you all know I want a EK hatchback, 99-2000. Anyways I am just wondering if it is worth the risk of it getting stolen. I interviewed at the Army Environmental Center in Aberdeen, Maryland over Spring Break and they tentatively offered me a GS-7 position. The interview went well, I just have to follow up with the guy to make sure.

I guess the situation is, I would either be living in Aberdeen if I got the job or would have to find a job in the DC area and live at home. This would ultimately mean that I park in the dreaded Fran/Spring Metro parking garage :? So let me know what y'all think. I don't want my car to get f*ckin stolen!

Reason for Civic is not I love the way it looks, and I would like to learn the mechanics of them so I can work on it myself. The people in the scene are cool as well.

Insurance on a M3 is $500 a month..

go ahead and get the civic if that is what you really want. If I remember correctly, stealing a stock civic isn't really the cool thing to do nowadays.

uhhhh... i'm gonna assume rob wouldn't keep it completely stock. any lowered civic or one with wheels is an ubermagnet.

Keep in mind that no car alarm / ignition kill / fuel cutoff can stop thieves from loading the car onto the back of a flatbed truck. If I owned a modded Civic I would invest in all three of the above though, as well as locking wheel lugs, razor blades for certain places thieves like to reach and a gun or two. IMHO that is....
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

i'm just saying, if that is what you really want, then you should go for it. After you own it a couple months, you might find that you don't even want it any more and will move on before you start forking a lot of money into it. I'm all about getting what you want, despite what others think.

True, but polished hubcaps don't exactly draw the thieves either.

Sorry for not being specific. It would definitely be a swapped hatch, either a B18C1 or B18C5.

Matt, no more hubcaps, check appearance/cosmetic for pictures. How many times are you gonna say that?

an alarm would be a must... a boot wouldn't be a bad investment. would you be tracking the car? if not, maybe just go for cosmetic upgrades... much less to worry about when it is stolen.

Also rob consider that when you insure a pos civic hatchback commuter car thats exactly the coverage you're going to get. You wont be covered for the $10k it cost you to buy it with the b18c5 and reeeumz and whatnot. And good luck getting a bankloan for twice what the book says its worth too.

All things to consider.....

also keep in mind that, although the ITRRRRRRR motor is not super duper ultra mad V-attak fast, it still has a lot of power that you may not be ready for. Perhaps settle for a stocker for a while would be a better choice. Personally, if I had the nerve to actually buy a civic, I'd get one and run the stock motor into the ground before I did a swap.

fucking thieves....

i wouldn't sweat it if it's what you really want. I love the way mine drives/handles and i'm pretty satisfied with it. If theives really want your car they will get it, but that goes for any car. Just take the necessary precautions with your car and get what you want. I think you'll enjoy the civic if/when you get it.

Hell you could buy mine when it goes up for sale
