A very WILD NSX rumor
#1
So I was cruising the net reading about the increasingly frequent rumors about a turbocharged Honda production engine (namely a 2.2 or 2.4L turbo) when I came across this...

[Image: attachment.php?s=5e5d5db2b28b242d52149e2...3978&stc=1]

Supposedly this is the NSX-R GT. 5 units will be built total. Rumored engine is a turbo 3.2L sporting 500 hp. The chassis is a widebody but not sure if it will be lighter than the regular NSX-R II (28xx lbs). It looks as if Honda is just doing this so they can properly homologate their JGTC car. Want one? Do you have $500k? Um...yeah. For that money this car had better have the cantilever suspension of the JGTC car. Oh, and it should weigh like 2500 lbs.

For the life of me this is shocking but maybe this is a result of having Takeo Fukui at the helm. Maybe the powers that be at Honda have finally decided to start letting it hang out.

Real car, real brochure. Just not clear on the details. Some corroborating evidence came from one of the editors at vtec.net. He got to go to Twin Ring Motegi to do a press event with a bunch of Hondas cars (including all of the Type-R's) and he said he heard something strange testing on the other track. Something bigger than an inline 4, but sounded different than the NSX V6...he said it could have been this car now that it has come to light.

I think the roof snorkel looks dorky but I've seen worse doodads on homologated specials *cough* STi wing *cough*...

If they changed the lights, hood, front bumper, and roof snorkel, it'd be hot.

Hahahaha, I knew that one would get you riled up!

You know, maybe a cool commercial for this car would be for the Jaws theme to be playing, then you see the snorkel cutting through the water...

$500,000 though? That is just ridiculous. Even if only 5 are being made. That is just wack.

Well...

If the car is significantly different mechanically from a regular (or even Type-R) NSX then it brings up several issues.

*Dealer support. If they sold 100 or more of these cars then they'd have to roll out a support program to the dealers which of course would cost at least few hundred thousand dollars or a few mil
*The cars are probably one-offs so all of the parts are custom fab, which means no economies of scale
*The cars are being built to meet homologation requirements which means they're not really concerned about selling them to the public.

$500k is super steep, especially if the cars don't have inboard suspension or something similarly wild. But at the very least they should be very fast. If they weigh less than the NSX-R II they'll probably be able to get to 60 in the 3 second range and crack a quarter mile in the 11's FWIW (assuming it has enough tire under it).
