for reference, here is a video of me in my bone stock miata and a WRX with big turbo, dyno tuned UTEC, stoptechs, coilovers, etc etc. I know the owner, and its very similar to what you describe what you want your car to end up like.
This is in an instructor session driven by another instructor (not a student) http://www.evan55.com/video/wrx_vs_miat ... r-divx.avi would you rather be a slow guy in a fast car, or a fast guy in a slower car? I know its hard for you to think of it this way, but the $$ spent on all those mods put towards seat time instead would make you much faster than the mods themselves. Just something to think about. trust me Ive been where you are. After buying my WRX I dumped $9k into it, courtesy visa. It took me a long time to recover from that, and afterwards, as much as I loved the WRX, I realized that its the activity of driving that is more important than the car itself. The car is just a tool that we use for the fun! In a miata, I can go to the track much more frequently, for less money, learn more and end up a better driver, and as a bonus I get a nice big ego boost when I fuck up some high HP shit http://www.evan55.com/video/roll_a_350z.avi http://www.evan55.com/video/roll_a_m3.avi ps- I also rolled the shit out of Maeng in his STi. With a passenger.

hey Evan, where's that video of you trailing RJ into turn 6 at VIR and the flagger at turn 6 gives him the passing flag?

just my .02.
Go ahead and do the mods, but do them in stages with a little track/autoX time in between. You'll appreciate each mod a little more because you actually see the entirety of what you are doing. As for mods before tracking a car, the only thing that I would require would be brakes, and just some pads at that. The one thing that I regret about the Supra is that I insisted on doing all those mods before tracking it. I drove it at 5 events after those mods and the only thing I bought were pads and tires to make me faster. Really, the only reason I did all the shit to the 240 already was because I need to sell the red car, wanted the stuff on it, and it necessitated swapping of goods between the cars to accomplish that. Modding a car is great, but I'd also recommend the seat time over the mods. It will make YOU faster, and therefore any vehicle that you drive faster. Last weekend I drove a car which I had technically owned for 1.5 months and 2 weeks prior had a totally different suspension and braking system. Not to mention that my car looks like poo. I went out there, had an absolute blast, and rolled some shit too despite that my car is pretty slow with 4 all seasons, was immobile the night before, and on its last leg at 150k miles. The speed that I gained in my shitty little 240 will make me a faster driver in the Supra, as well as the FD, Z06, porsche and any other car that I plan to own in my lifetime

Good input all around ! Wow I'm kinda drunk and this thread got way off topic.
What the fuck is that on the track Evan ? Is that normal when people just wave you by ? I didn't realize part of racing at that level was to let people pass you. Those two guys were fucking pussies. Is that like time trials where it doesn't matter if people pass you or something ? If that was me I'd just drive faster, but as stated before I'm a champion like that. No chance I'd wave some dude past like a woman, but clearly, I don't know the rules of that kind of racing. Clearly I'd dominate as well with a little practice, seeing how much of a bitch some people seem to be on the track (and considering I've "rolled" EVOs and modded BMWs that were actually trying on the highway). Oh woops ! I said it ! The forbidden fruit~!

In groups 1 and 2 you can only give point bys on straights, in groups 3 and 4, anywhere you want. So if you are faster than someone and you catch up to them they are supposed to give you a point by. In racing obviously you pass wherever and whenever as long as you don't crash or pass under yellow. But in actual racing you need a lot more safety equipment and a race license. Oh woops ! I said it ! The forbidden fruit~! That's what you'd think but you'd be surprised at how fast some cars can be in the right hands. Some of the guys with more expensive cars genuinely drive like pussies but many of them are trying they just can't carry the speed through the corners. So yeah you'll roll some others and others will roll you, depending on what you bring to the table and what organization you're running with. From what I hear NASA is probably the most aggressive track day group you'll run into.

Lee...this man speaks the truth. same principle works in autocrossing, although thats mainly due to super-powerful cars not being able to stretch their legs. you wouldn't believe what a seemingly underpowered car can do on a real race track with someone driving who knows how to wring the last mph out of it. the highway racing, mountain twisties battles that you see all over the internet just don't compare in any way. i don't mean to say you're ignorant on the subject either, i know you aren't. i'm just saying that its easy to underestimate horsepower numbers 8)
