Hans Stuck and his M3 GTR around Nurburgring.

Words are not necessary. I just sat with my jaw dropped during this.

i can barely process whats going on, its all happening so fast. Hans Stuck is my hero.

im curious about the shifting though. when he downshifts, it seems like he doesnt even have time to rev-match the engine. does he just dump it into a lower gear without rev matching? im sure he could easily heel/toe, but it didn't sound or look (i tried to watch his legs move but his arm was in the way whenever he'd shift) like he did.

wow, that takes me back....hard to recognize some parts when he's driving that fast. Track also seems wider in person. But, it's all good. He's a wonderful driver. Anyone notice the little wiggle coming off the second cement banked turn?? And, that places has a awesome karting track under on of their largest buildings. It's indoors and beats out g-force in Richmond. Think a higher class of karting. Like going from CART to F1 almost.

It's a syncro tranny, so it operates differently than a normal tranny. I'm not sure of the specifics, but basically a clutch is either not needed at all or it's needed very little. Watching his left leg makes me think it's not needed. That's also why the tranny noise rasies in pitch throughout the entire accelleration.

that being said, ifi you watch his right foot, I'm pretty sure it's tapping the gas on hard downshifts. With race engines, they rev so quickly that it only takes a tap to get them where they need to be.

Awesome video!

The trans probably doesnt have synchros - just straight cut gears (hence the whine) and dog rings (and the *crunch* on engagement). He is heel-toe'ing Smile Damn that guy is fast.

.....well shiver me timbers. if he's heel and toeing that fast on a dogbox that smoothly that's freakin phenomenal.

No need to be smooth, just slam it home. Anything less will actually do more damage than good.

interesting. i would have though just slamming it would risk locking up the rear wheels....but i guess he's braking fast enough that they don't have time to lock (i'm thinking "shift lock" in drifting terms)

the sick thing is....looking at the time on the video that was a mid 8 minute lap. the records right now are:

Production Car: Porsche 996 GT2 7:47
Tuner/Street Legal Car: Porsche Gemballa GTR 600 7:44
Racecar/Overall: Porsche 956 C 6:11

can you imagine doing that lap roughly 2 MINUTES faster? crazy. i'm pretty sure those records are just for a single lap though, not a long race like what Hans is doing in the video.

cool. it looks like he's running the shifter through a gate though. i thought sequential shifters were just pushed forwards or backwards. i always get this stuff confused.

well, doesn't he start from a dead stop though? I imagine his time would be a bit less if he had a rolling start, nothing near that fast though.
