I'm with you - I think the Rio Karma is a much better deal - it has higher sound quality, battery lasts 2x as long, fast transfer rates, easy menu navigation, Ogg Vorbis and FLAC format support, and costs $50 less. Why isn't it popular? Less bling for the buck. If you like bling buy and iPod. If you like functionality and features buy another MP3 player and save yourself some money. With the money you saved you could pick up a pair of white headphones on ebay so you wouldn't lose face among your fashion conscious peers.

Great, you can pay $250 for your rio that has a, imo, shitty interface... or i can get an ipod mini which has great sound quality, weighs nothing, and is immensly reliable.

After years as a PC lover... I'm slowly starting to get drawn to why people like macs...

PS... I'd never pay $250 for any audio device... that includes car stereo, computer stereo, mp3 player... nothing. Home stereo... 250 is about my limit. I just don't think sound is that important... but that's just me.

That's all I've spent on audio stuff.... ever.

Most reviews I have seen say the interface is great, and I doubt that you would notice the difference between the 3.7oz weight of the iPod mini and 5.5oz weight of the Karma .

I would never pay $250+ either - as for the iPod being "immensely reliable" the batteries are known to shit themselves after a year of heavy use. The battery issue was for 1st gen ipods only. As for the sound quality.. we'll see.
