POS 240
#1
Aight, so I go off for a little ride. Still haven't done any major brake or suspension work on the 240, but what the hell. I flog the car pretty good up 33w and back tonight, absolutely great. Fell in love with the car; rotates well, great torque, responsive, super floaty but upcoming mods will remedy that. Get all the way back to town and I lose ALL pressure in my clutch pedal at the intersection of Port and Main headed back to my apartment. I mean NOTHING, pedal just sat on the firewall. After 5 seconds of cursing, I decide to coast it back to a nearby road (luckily it was late and no traffic). I get the hood popped and look around, nothing major has blown up. No weird noises ever came from the transmission tunnel either. I stalled it earlier in the night (laugh, but you drive the supra every day for 3 years and switch to this car and see there is a ginormous difference in the clutch engagements) and the pedal stuck, but it came back out and nothing else seemed wrong. This wouldn't build pressure or anything. So, I get it parked and I'm looking a little closer. Doesn't appear to be any major lines busted. Can't see any puddles cuz the ground is wet anyways. Get to the master cylinder; mother f**ker is DRY. Stick my finger in and no fluid whatsoever. Filled it up, but still no pressure. Left car to return tomorrow.
I'll jack it up and bleed the clutch tomorrow, since I'm sure theres a ton of air trapped in there and hopefully that will fix the problem. I'll make sure everything is tight while I'm at it.
Can anybody think of any reason that this would happen other than what I have deduced. Master cylinder is brand new, slave cylinder is not. Everything has been swapped in past 6 months, inspected while off car, nothing looked really screwed up, has 500 miles on with zero problems whatsoever (OK, so there's a little bit of oil burning, but I already figured that one out).

The only thing I can think to suggest off the top of my head is to check the slave cylindar today while it's daylight. Both Alison's and her Brother's Miata's slave cylindars were leaking pretty constantly, and would result in a dry MC and a pedal on the firewall. Her brother got his replaced and it feels fine, her's was just bled and it helped, but it's on its way back down again.

P.S. If you need a tow, call. good luck!

I feel ya bud, and I got an LSD, brakes, door, and suspension to install/swap as well!! 8) . Hopefully the pile will hold her shit. Took it for a ride up 33W tonight and it felt great, except feeling like I was gonna flip over (body roll like a mofo).

Nice nice. Let me know if you need some help. 2 people per car should get things done more quickly than one per car and 2x+ the time.

On your LSD, is it a swap of the rear diff and all, or just the ininards? Do you have the rollbars and suspension to put on it?

Oh yeah, which POS are we talking about here ;-) ?

she rides again.

On way home from work (yeah, that was great surprise phone call this morning at 7am!) went by with a 10mm and some brake fluid. Bled the shit out of the master cylinder for the clutch. Nasty, milky shit came out, as well as major sputtering from the air. If I press and hold in the clutch, it feels like it is going to fail me again; if I do quick, decisive shifts it feels pretty good exept the clutch is very "thick" after the friction point, but it works. Will get me around under dire circumstances, I suppose. Anybody else got any ideas?

Evan, is this similar to what happened when your slave went out?

on the plus side, my springs showed up today.
Tomorrow will probably yeild a thorough bleeding of the clutch and possible purchase/install of a new slave, as well as begining the install of suspension into the 240. Anybody available from 11-3?

Its hard to tell from your description, but I think so. Very similar to when you boil your brake fluid on track and start to get a "long pedal" where the brakes arent clamping until the bottom of the stroke.
when my slave went, the clutch wasnt disengaging all the way, and only a little bit at the very very end of the pedal stroke. No resistance at all at the top of the stroke (pedal flopping around)

a rebuild is easy and quick. and of course cheap. as long as the bore isnt scored, there is no reason to dump $100 on a whole new cylinder IMO. local parts store even had it in stock for me

hah, so i figured i'd let you guys know that i figured it out and got all worked up over nothing. I hadn't really delved into it before I started trouble shooting. Turns out that the rubber line leading from the hard line to the slave cylinder was just loose. Super easy fix. Coulda been cheap, but I went ahead and got a new line, since that one was old and probably just as prone to do it again, which I do not feel like experiencing on track.
