i was driving around aimlessly in harrisonburg today trying to find a place that could inspect my car. After trying about 15 different places and getting the same BS i decided to look for the toyota dealership to get some parts i need. Well i had no clue where it was but i knew where the nissan dealership was, so i went there to ask where the toyota dealership was. Pull up next to a 350z that was on the last parking spot in the lot, so the road just kinda went right by it. I went in, got directions, then went back to my car. I get in the car start pulling forward, clutch is all the way out then i start feeling the front tire go over a curb.........by now its far too late to try and stop, its past the point of no return cause i was already goin like 6mph by the time i felt resistance, but oh i tried to brake.......front tire goes over car comes down on the curb, all i hear is a huge snap crackle popping noise..............back tire goes over.........i get out.........right sideskirt is fucked, molding cracked almost all the way across both screws towards the back broke through their holes. My car knew i was at a Nissan dealership, eyeing those 350Z and it decided to give me a little pay back Cry On a good note ill be joining MM tonight Smile so far though, worst day of my life.

Uh, ok.

I would not recommend a vtec prelude for a track car but thats just me.

If you want a fun track car, then get a 88-91 Civic Si hatch, do some light suspension mods and put 15x7 wheels with Falken tires and go roll hype-arrrs. Cheap, easy to maintain, and light (doesnt eat up brake pads like my boat).

yea i want a daily driver that still looks good and i could track, thats why id go with a lude Smile cause theyre fast and look good just lowered, and they handle like a beast. Gotta cop a lude

Well i guess thats a matter of opinion about looks. But tracking a prelude is going to be more expensive than a lighter car, they will chew up tires and brake pads.

Quote: cause theyre fast and look good just lowered, and they handle like a beast.

So is an EF/EG Hatch or a miata, (or.... hopefully you see where i'm going with this). And will be alot cheaper to maintain. "Fast" is such a relative term, especially if you've never been to any schools. The driver will be the factor limiting your speed for a long time... not the car.

Well there are a couple of different ways to look at what you're trying to accomplish.

-The Lude is a pretty good handling car but its the heaviest of the fwd performance Hondas. Still, it has the most torque and may be the easiest to drive around down. Practicality wise the EF/EG hatchbacks or the Integras have it beat, but it certainly is not a torturous car to live with.

RJ is right. Brakes and tires will wear more quickly on this car. Other than that its pretty solid

-If fwd is what you want I'd go for a DC2 or DA Integra. They're both lighter than the Prelude and don't really give up anything on handling. You'll also find a lot more aftermarket parts for them.

-The EF/EG hatches are good buys but I'd venture to say they're a bit overpriced because of the demand. I'd go for a CRX for what you'd pay for a good EG. Still, there are deals to be found.

I disagree with RJ on the speed thing. The stock hatches are slow enough that you may get bored with them. The Si models aren't bad though, and of course you can get a D16A6 engine for them for free probably.

-Three alternate choices for you would be a S13 240SX, naturally-aspirated FC RX-7, E30 BMW 325, or 90-93 Nissan Sentra SE-R. All four of those cars have their own peculiarites but they're reasonably priced and are reasonably fun.

For my money I would do the test driving thing and see what I like. I went with the DC2 Integra GS-R because it handles well, has a great transmission, and was just fast enough to be challenging without being too much for my skill level. Any of the aforementioned cars shouldn't be too much for you to handle if you're not stupid with them.

Can find a Si hatch in really good shape for for ~$2500 if you look around.

Jamie (one of the NASA instructors) was all over my bumper in the braking zones and low-speed (turns 1-6) section at VIR last weekend. The car is certainly capable in the right hands - check this out - http://www.redshiftmotorsports.com/ChrisTech.htm

yea i definitely dont want a 1.6L. My celica im definitely bored with, and ive been driving back country roads fast as hell for years now, i know the exact limits of my car in any corner, my car no longer even halfway scares me, ill slide around 20mph corners going 75, i got mad driving skills, and id auto X except if i hit a cone itd crack moldings. And i definitely want a car thats quick in a straight line along with corners. My friend has a SI non-vtec h23 prelude and it was damn fast in straight lines and corners. I don't plan on tracking all that much i just need something that i can scare myself with again, im way too comfortable driving my celica fast. Or i might buy a GT celica and track it, just cause noone does, im definitely staying away from hatchbacks and crxs cause theyre mighty ugly, if i wasnt worried about looks id just go for a 1g AWD DSM, cause theyre hella hella fast and look like ass. I dunno, just gotta get a good price for the celica, id be lookin to get atleast 6000 for it, 6500 with the 4age 20v+c52 transmission thats chillin in my basement. I have 10,000 thrown at this car (lots of maintenance stuff too) not including the 3000 the car originally cost, this is why i dont really wanna sell it Sad losin tons of money. oh yea, when you "cop" something you acquire it hehe. If i can afford an r6 though without selling my car ill just do that :-D sooner or later everyone cant ignore the power to weight ratio of bikes Smile oh well, all show no go for now haha, but even with no go i beat NA eclipse/probes, NA mr2s, d16&d16z6 civics, d15&d16z6 del sols, hang with si crx beat dx crx. This is mostly cause people cant shift like i can :-D learning to race on a 50hp 1987 subaru gl hatchback makes you learn how to shift real real real fast, but ive already worn out one set of shift linkage cables Sad second set is holding up but it cost 600 to replace them. Dah well time for some class, im out, peace
