Couple Brake questions
#1
Sup fellas,

I'm about to change my brake pads and i've got a couple questions.

I'm going to be needing pads that have good stopping power, but i'll only be using the car for daily driving and maybe 4-5 auto-x's this year. Which pads should i get? I was thinking carbotech's or cobalt's, but i'm not sure if i'll need them. The stock pads are $46 from Honda.

And second, what can i resurface the rotor's with? assuming i need to resurface the rotor's when i put new pads on there.

Thanx, Jay

Did you burn through those dayum EBC Green's already? I told you they sucked Wink

No need to resurface rotors. I'd use Axxis Ultimates or Hawk HP+ - available from both carbotech and cobalt. The HP+ have better initial bite and make more dust though.

I'll put a vote in for the Hawk HP+. They performed quite well out at VIR this weekend and are hella fun on the street; major improvement in stopping power over the stockers. That's the only ones that I've tried though, so I can't give a real well-rounded analysis.

Man those pads are horendous. Yeah, about 20k miles and i need new pads already. My stock pads were better in almost every way. I would recommend those to people i wish would die.

I thought the HP+ pads were strictly racing pads?

Axxis Ultimates, awesome street and autox pad. They dust a bit, but anything that has good bite is going to.

the Axxis, do they ever squeal? Just curious, because the HP+ are quite likely to. Mine squeal like a pig, boy! Confusedhock: Looks like you can't go too wrong with Axxis or HP+ though-- there's plenty that swear by either of them, and they have similar temp ranges.

My Ultimates only squealed for a few days after my XP8s had been on.

lets do a test  i dont have an issue with my pads on ... two track events and almost 8 months on the street and they are fine. in NOVA you can heat up pads fast... just a little stop and go or press'm down for a stop light and you are golden. xp8s are twice the price of ultimates sure... but it saves my lazy butt from having to change pads when i do track it.

it only takes like 20 minutes (or less with help) to change all four. i'm cheap, i'll just change my pads Smile

I have used both the HP+ and the Ultimates on the Geeser. I'd say go with the Ultimates. I don't know if they have more stopping power than the HP+'s but they are A LOT quieter. The HP+ makes all kinds of horrible squeaking, squawking noises that make people look at your car funny when you're on campus.

That's how you know they're good! You can feel brakes, you can smell brakes, you can touch 'em and they're hot, they taste bad... I want to hear 'em too!
