Jason Hunt to Replace Lisa Kubo

This isn't really going to mean a damn thing to anyone on this board, with the exception of Jack and Gregg.

Basically, while the three of us were at the MachV/Ultimate Dyno I kept wondering who the guy is that was strapping the cars in and who was running them on the dyno. After the sessions I learned that A: his name was Jason and B: he has been running two fast hondas (9 second crx and 10 second eg coupe) for many years. Our conversation was much longer but that is the crucial bit.

Well the reason I wondered who he was is because I'm familiar with the owners and almost all of the people who work at this shop, and I'd never seen him before.

Fast forward to the next day, where, like the ricer I am, I'm reading Modified Magazine. Lo and behold, the advertisement for Justice Race Engines in Fredrick, Md reads

jason hunt
car doctor performance team
9.54 @ 153 mph

with a picture of his car below it. Well now you don't have to be a genius like myself to put together the idea that the guy who I met at Ultimate the day beforethat was Jason Hunt ...the number of 9 second CRX drivers named Jason in this area is not very large.

Fast forward to today, the 14th of January. I'm checking my email, and this subject line from one of my capitol area dsm emails jumps out at me: "Jason Hunt to drive for Saturn Motorsports"

So I open it up and learn that Jason Hunt (picture included to seal the fact that he was the guy I met) will be replacing Lisa Kubo in the Saturn Motorsports Pro FWD car...first FWD car into the 7's and probably the first FWD car to hit the 200 mph mark. Well, what does this mean?

It means that Gregg and Jack had the rare oppurtunity to talk about and receive advice about their cars from a pro sport compact drag racer...who is probably going to be the first fwd driver to trap over 200 miles per hour. And none of us even knew it...until after the fact.

*CLIFFS*
Through a interesting series of coincidences I piece together the fact that Gregg and Jack had their cars dynoed by Jason Hunt, the new driver of Lisa Kubo's 7 second Saturn pro FWD drag car.

Damn its a small world. So I take it this guy is a bonafide technical expert too? Did he say anything particularly interesting tech wise?

Well I thought maybe someone like Jack would have something to say about this, but I guess not.

I don't know about bonafide. He's been running competitive sport compact drag cars for like 6-7 years. He is going to be driving the car....I'm sure the saturn motorsports team has people who are being paid to be 'technical experts.' But if I had to put money on it...I would bet he knows a hell of a lot about making big power out of honda engines...he probably knows how to put it to the ground as well.

We didn't talk about slip angles or whatever it is you time trial guys talk about....I asked him very specific questions about the size slicks I should run this season and he answered them. I don't know if that is interesting.

He raced Hondas and will now be driving a Saturn. I'll leave my valvecover reserved for Shepherd and Marco Passante. But it was nice to talk with a guy who has been running fwd drag cars for a while.

Most pro race guys you are going to meet are pretty humble, at least in my experience.

Talking to Jason again a few days ago, he said she would be driving one of the new Cobalt drag cars. But yeah, she is moving on to a rwd platform.
