not when it cost 2x as much, and then one day the govt decides to shut it down .

But go ahead and Get one. I'd be curious to see how accurate it is compared to the beacon and the transmitters NASA uses at the track. I've got a regular GPS and it's not all that accurate. It's fine for car use, but for timing down to the 1/100...

Its not going to be accurate for race timing, but for DE's, testing/tuning, race analysis etc its fine in terms of its accuracy.

Maybe this spring I'll invest in DAq instead of b00st (that sounds smart... stop the crazy talk!)

personally, I would have paid a little extra for a mychron basic and gotten some additional logging and monitoring

I'm getting a data logging system that is tied into my computers engine management system and will provide me with adaptive tuning while on the track. I looked at the mychron but it really didn't offer may anything other than a few sensors for g load and such. Do you know how the mychron does its lap times? I didn't see any mention of an IR transmitter or anything.

there are a few different mychrons, the basic is a timer and a few engine monitors/gauges
the timer is a standard IR type

The Gold and XG LOG also have lateral and horizontal accelerometers which can do track maps and split times, and I believe have a plug in GPS module
