Where/how far is it from JMU, and how do you get there?

From the pics that i saw, it looks like a great place to make a evening drive up to.

i wouldn't really want to drive up there at night... the roads are tiny, have huge cliffs on the side of them, and god only knows what wildlife would come crawling out in to the road at night.

Reddish Knob is also exposed to weather and i can move in fast. I vote for a drive before the game. Tailgating there and then going to the game?

Just a word of warning: The drive up reddish knob is absolutely positively, not the time to dick around in a car, show off, get an ego, or otherwise try to drive more than 20mph or related retardation. (not saying thats the intention...but when groups of car guys get together sometimes stupid stuff happens)

Ill ignore your comment "tailgating there and then going (driving) to the game" for now so you can rethink it and appropriately edit the comment.

Sorry, I forgot I'm the only person at JMU that doesn't drink. And btw, I've lived here and camped in those mountains for a long time. I know what the drive is like and I make the assumesion for a certain level of safety. Trust me bro, I'm not doing anything that might put my car back in the body shop.

i was thinking a similar idea as to what we did last year for homecoming. Meet at some predetermined rally point ~11am, drive up there, maybe a little grillin n chillin if its not too cold/windy, then come back for some afternoon festivities in the burg. If nothing else, its a lot of fun just to drive in a pack and get some killer photos at the top.

I also have another idea of a place out at Massanutten we can look into if we don't want to do Reddish Knob.

It's usually about 10 degrees cooler, at least, at the top of Reddish than it is at harrisonburg, so perhaps that would help determine if it's grilling weather. I'm all for grilling there though, I've done it before and it's awesome.

For the guy that asked and never got answered:
# Route 42 South from Harrisonburg for 3 miles to town of Dayton
# Take a right after 3rd quick stop light on Route 257 west
# Go 5 miles to stop sign at Ottibine, left on Route 257
# Follow Route 257 3 miles to "257 Market", right on Route 257
# Follow Route 257 past entrance of Hone Quarry Recreation Area

You'll notice that the road gets skinner and skinner. Also, keep going up, every time there's a question as to which way to go on the skinny road, just go up.

Take a camera and go on a clear day.

Enjoy!

lowered cars are fine all the way up, i can't recall anything they would affect them.

11am? i dunno, that's pretty early...

last time I went up in pete's truck there were to many rocks in the road for me to want to even attempt the mustang. maybe we just went the hard way...

when jay and i went up yesterday it was fine. eeeeeeeexcept for one large rock that was randomly in the middle of the road. jay tagged it pretty good, it sounded bad but it probably just bounced off of his header. otherwise the roads were free of any debris. if there's anything to really watch for its potholes, they are pretty ragged up there.

Is this the right route? http://tinyurl.com/9fh35

I've never been, but I was thinking about going tomorrow and thought an actual map might help.
