The grill (and "big blue") has been present at nearly every NASA event in the past 3 years.

it was not present at the last one and when I brought it up for this coming event nobody said they wanted to grill and Mike specifically said he'd rather bring $$$ and buy food at the store. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for grillin, just seems like the support is waning.

Every time we've tried to pool in some $$ to bring food or go to walmart for food its been a mess due to people not paying up, or people that want to eat that dont have any cash, or people that are instructing/working that get lunch anyways.

Grilling is cool and all, but still I'd rather have the free food from my meal ticket than have to pay for anything. Not to mention there are times where I get little to no break so making it over there for the specific time y'all are grilling isn't an option.

yuppppp. i'm not stingey (sp?) but i don't like buying meals for people that don't have the courtesy to say "hrm, this meal is good. so good that i bet it wasn't free, maybe i should think about who paid for it and give them a few bucks?"

We just have to get food set up before hand using paypal or whatever. Most of the time even if I put in some money on others didn't I'm still eating for a lot less than I'd pay otherwise.
Maybe we should just find a sort of standard assortment of food we buy at the track and find out the price. Let's say $20. For 6 people that's about $3.50 a person. No big deal no?

Tried that once....
I dont like to have a defeatest attitude about things, but if you want to try it, go ahead - we just havent had any success with it in the past.

just grill, and make us bastards pay like 1 buck for a burger... and god forbid if we want a drink... a buck for that too... but if I were ever at an event, I'd be willing to throw a fiver down on some good grilled food :-)

Yeah but who buys the burgers before we go?
And what if no one wants to pay up for them? Then who ever has bought the burgers, snacks, etc is out $20-$30.

We've been through the whole, pay back someone for buying food, that doesn't work, fine, that's not the point anymore. In the latest SP thread the idea was brought up for everyone to bring whatever they wanted to grill, and even that didn't gain support. I appreciate the effort chris, but I afraid its all for not.
