Abbie McDonald running for Treasurer
#1
Hey yall! My name is Abbie, and I would love to be the club treasurer next year. This club has been great to me ever since I joined, and I really want to give back by offering up my service during my last year at JMU.

I’ve been an MMer for 2 years now. I’m very organized and accountable, and this makes me a good candidate for this job. My mom is also a bookkeeper, so I’ve learned from the best on how to manage money! T-shirt orders would be organized and managed responsibly, and I also want to step up club fundraising next year (possible car wash fundraiser? Raffles?) I will manage the funds that make karting and track days possible and allocate funds as necessary. I will also assist the other officers in planning events. I really want to see karting each semester, Kline’s cruise-ins, classroom meetings, Quaker Steak dinners, the annual car show, more Top Gear nights, more D-Hall lunches, and last but not least….MORE TRACK DAYS!!! (the March event at VIR as me sold for life) I’d also like to see the club out at more kinds of racing events in addition to VIR, Summit, and AutoX (provided the interest and participation is there). Possible drag racing night at Eastside Dragway in Waynesboro or VMP? I’d like to see at least one social event each week. Another event idea I’ve always had is a club car wash and detailing day on a Saturday when the weather is nice. I don’t know about everyone else, but I hate driving a dirty car!

MM is an awesome club, and I really want to help continue its legacy. We have had such a successful year (many thanks to the current officers for their hard work!), and I think that we can continue to make this club even better next year. Thanks for reading!

I will post up some questions in a bit, but I wanted to use this post to congratulate Abbie.

Abbie did a tremendous job working the booth this weekend at the carshow! She handled receiving the money and answering people’s questions perfectly. Every time I walked by, she had a smiling face and was chatting with whomever was asking her questions or entering their car/buying raffle tickets. She constantly shows her enthusiasm for the club and wanting to continue its growth. I think Abbie would make a wonderful Treasurer and would be a great addition to the officers list next year.

My way of testing her for treasurer.....she just didn't realize it until now Tongue

of the many times I walked over to the tent to pat her on the back and see how everything was going she immediately hammered back "Great! Doing good." in a solid "I'm on a mission" tone of voice. I saw her inner tough leader come out and well, me gusta  she was firm with grabbing the entrance fees and did a great job selling the club and baskets.

She's not just a purdy member of the club......but we all know that already! She'll do just fine next year 8)

Thank you both so much for the pat on the back! I had a great time running the registration table and I'm so glad to hear that I did a satisfactory job! Y'all definitely just made my day so thank you Big Grin

Something else I want to add to my initial post: I will be out to as many weekend events as I possibly can. However, I go home quite a bit to drag race so there will be some that I won't be able to attend. I do think officer participation is important though so I will make my best effort to be at every single one that doesn't conflict with my own racing schedule. Smile

Can't be mad if your reason for missing some events is to race at other events! Smile

Seeing how you worked at the show and how you handled the sign in, registration, cash handling etc. I honestly don't have any questions! I know you can handle this position bud

Maybe one question or something to think about- what can we do with fundraising/ what are 3-5 fundraising ideas for the club?

We started with a small amount of cash this year and through fundraising from apparel sells and at events we were always healthy when it came to finances, how/ what will you do to see that this happens again/ more $ is made so that the current students next year will benefit from it?

The raffles were a BIG hit at the car show so I'd like to do that again next year. Apparel sales of course....I like how we kept those going pretty much year-round. As for new ideas: I really like the idea of a car wash fundraiser...possibly also a spaghetti dinner? I'm not sure how popular those ideas will be but we'll see! I'm also open to suggestions from everyone Smile

Me gusta spaghetti dinner- have it on campus for students- sell tickets ahead of time? At door? Good idea- this might bring lots of money- BUT you'll run into Aramark with making $ off food etc. You'll find JMU always has at least ONE way of killing a great idea with their BIG red tape

Hmmmmmm......I'd sell ticket ahead of time and at the door. As for on campus, I don't know. I feel like off campus would be much easier as far as avoiding all the red tape. We'll see though. This is definitely something we can look into though.

Depending on the dates, you could use our social hall at our church. We can probably secure that for you guys, and we can go from there. We aren't that far down Port Republic Road, and keep in mind MM has lots of friends in the community, so that might be a better idea then just on campus. Just sayin'
